Warren S. Babcock 89, of Ft. Myers Beach, FL died May 5, 2016. He was born in Eustis, Florida on February 12, 1927 and was the son of Clifford C. and Dorothy Spencer Babcock. Warren was preceded in death by his parents and his wife of 63 years, Mary Ann (Miller) Babcock. He is survived by his daughter, Cynthia (Charles) Richardson; son, Edward (Constance) of Newbury; grandchildren: Laura (Kyle) Daniel; Andrea (Jeremy) Dusina; Clifford J. and Christina Babcock; and 5 great grandchildren.
After graduating from Hiram College in 1949, he joined his father at Junction Auto Sales in Chardon, OH where he retired in 1992. While active, he served as an Ohio Auto Dealer trustee and on the National Dodge Dealer Council, where he was chairman of several committees. The business was among the first to receive the coveted 5 Star Award from the Chrysler Corporation and is one of the few nationally to continuously receive it.
Mr. Babcock served Geauga County as district chairman of the Boy Scouts, where he was instrumental in bringing the United Way to the County. While serving as chairman of the United Way, the Geauga Mental Health Association and the Geauga Transit were established. He served as vice-chairman of the Metropolitan Housing Association and as a member of the Geauga Economic Opportunity program. Warren also worked on fund raising committees for the Boy Scouts and the YMCA. He was a member of the Chardon High School Hall of Fame.
Since his retirement, Warren and his wife spent most of their time at their home on Fort Myers Beach. His local contributions continued with active participation in various committees (Traffic, Mound House, and 1995 Incorporation of Ft Myers Beach). He was an avid golfer (charter member, Cypress Lakes CC) and enthusiastic fisherman. Warren’s favorite charities were the Harry Chapin Food Bank, and the Salvation Army.
Services for Mr. Babcock will be held at the Fowler’s Mill Cemetery in Chardon, OH at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to either of Warren’s favorite charities.
