After an entertaining and successful inaugural Valentine’s Eve event last year, the Estero Island Garden Club is back this year with a new venue and more fun for the Second Annual Valentine’s Eve Fundraiser! Grab your honey or your besties and come out on Wednesday, February 13 from 7-9pm to St. Raphael’s Historic Episcopal Church newly remodeled Comfort Hall for an evening that will feature appetizers, desserts and beer & wine. Live music will be provided by the Pearl Street Band. Garden-related raffle prizes will be awarded and the Silent Auction will have two major prizes: a sunset boat cruise and a
2-night stay on Marco Island. Tickets are $25 each and available by calling Cindy at
The Garden Club chose to limit raffle prizes this year to garden-related prizes after their decision to not seek prize donations from local businesses hit hard by water quality problems in the past year. The Garden Club plans to take a more proactive approach to water and environmental issues going forward. Last fall, they screened the film, “Toxic Puzzle” about illnesses caused by exposure to blue green algae.
The Estero Island Garden Club has a long history of serving the community of Fort Myers Beach by establishing gardens, promoting environmentally friendly programs, and being good neighbors. They promote Florida-friendly and all-Florida native gardens that reduce the need for fertilizers and water and are happy to serve as a resource for residents working to establish their own Florida-friendly yard…one plant at a time.
Ongoing projects of the Estero Island Garden Club include the Anne Reasoner Memorial Garden at Bay Oaks, youth projects at Beach School – raised bed and butterfly gardens, Holiday trees at the Beach Library and FMB Woman’s Club, public educational projects, participation in the Christmas Tree Festival and numerous island beautification projects.
