    It’s November and there is plenty to do on the beach! Make sure you don’t miss anything by checking out these Around & About announcements and be sure to pick up a copy of the November SAND LIFE magazine for a complete list of what’s happening on the beach

     

    PAINT THE BEACH

    The 7th Annual Paint the Beach en Plein Air Festival wraps up this weekend in Santini Marina Plaza. The artwork of 60 artists who spent three days painting the beach will be shown first at a Collectors Reception on FR Nov 11 from 5-8pm in the Festival tent at Santini Marina Plaza. On SA, Nov 12, a Quick Draw contest will be held in Times Square from 9-11am with paintings on display until 2pm, when they’ll be moved to Santini Plaza. Artwork will be on display and available for purchase in the Festival tent SA 9am-6pm and SU 10am-2pm.

     

    CHRISTMAS BOAT PARADE

    Save the date for the 28th Annual Christmas Boat Parade on SA Dec 3 at 5pm. Brought to you by the FMB Chamber of Commerce and hosted by Salty Sam’s Marina. Be part of the parade-sign up now. Powerboats, large and small, sailboats are all invited to participate with prizes awarded in seven categories including Most Spirited Crew and People’s Choice.     VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

    The Mound House is expecting their busiest season yet and is seeking more volunteers who can help at the museum one day a week, whether mornings (9am-12:30pm) or afternoons (12:30-4pm). There are monthly volunteer meetings during season to keep everyone well informed, provide training and take field trips. Seasonal residents are welcome. Mound House hours May-Dec. are TU, WE & SA 9am-4pm; Jan-Apr TU-SA 9am-4pm. Pick a day that fits your schedule and join this wonderful group of volunteers!     VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

    Join the fun by volunteering at the Sand Sculpting Championships Nov 18-27. Volunteers help monitor the event entrance or sell t-shirts. Morning and afternoon shifts available. Volunteers provided water, event entry, lunch and t-shirt. Call to sign up today Rhonda 239-454-7500.

     

    LAUGHTER YOGA

    FLEA MARKET

    The Fort Myers Beach Woman’s Club is hosting a Flea Market on SA Nov 12 from 9am-noon at their clubhouse, 175 Sterling St. The market includes a great selection of household goods, furniture, jewelry, Christmas items, linens, books, clothing and more. Any additional donations of gently used items can be dropped off at the clubhouse any TU or FR between 9:15am-2pm.

     

    SHRIMP DINNER

    Enjoy our area’s finest delicacy, Gulf Pink Shrimp, at the monthly Shrimp Dinner offered at Historic St. Raphael’s Episcopal Church Parish Hall, 5601 Williams Dr. on SA Nov 12 from 5-7pm. All you can eat GULF shrimp, homemade cole slaw, baked beans, cornbread, beer, wine, soda and dessert. $20/per person.

     

    DINNER DANCE

    The Knights of Columbus will host a dinner dance on SA Nov 12 at 5:30pm at Ascension Church Hall 6025 Estero Blvd. A donation of $20/person will include Dinner, Entertainment and Refreshments. For tickets call Dennis at 239-440-5511. All proceeds benefit the Beach Kids Christmas fund.

     

    TOYS FOR X-MAS

    The Beach Pub will host their 16th Annual Toys for X-Mas toy drive on Nov 13 beginning at noon. Live music, raffles, Silent Auction, food and 50/50. Bring a new unwrapped toy that will be given to the Spirit of the Holidays toy drive.

     

    HISTORIC SOCIETY

    The Estero Island Historic Society will offer a Free Public Presentation on Monday, November 14, 2016 at 7pm Robert Macomber – a top speaker, award-winning author, historian, and perennial favorite presenter at EIHS meetings – will present on Southwest Florida and the Spanish-American War at the Fort Myers Beach Public Library, 2755 Estero Blvd., in the Community Room, 3rd floor. Come early as this popular speaker always draws a capacity audience. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Free of charge and open to the public. Donations are welcome.     MOON WALK

    The Friends of Matanzas Pass Preserve will conduct its monthly “By the Light of the Moon” program on MO Nov 14 beginning at 5:15pm. Awaken and sharpen your sense of smell, touch, hearing and night vision as you join two volunteers with candlelit lanterns as they guide you through the Preserve by the light of the moon.     BREWS ON THE BAY

    The Estero Bay Buddies and Good Time Charters present Brews on the Bay, on SA Nov 19 from 3-6pm to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Estero Bay Aquatic Preserve. The cruise aboard a 38-ft catamaran will allow passengers to soak up the bay’s natural beauty while enjoying locally made brew form Point Ybel Brewery. Tickets are $50 and include the cruise, two beer tickets and a commemorative glass. A Designated Driver Ticket is available for $40.     SHRIMP PRINCESSES

    It’s time to apply to participate in the Fort Myers Beach 59th Shrimp Festival Queen Pageant! Young ladies age 16-20 are eligible to apply. Participation includes awards and prizes, social events, a ride atop of a Corvette convertible in the Shrimp Festival parade, pageant gift bags and community service hours for school. The Queen receives a $500 college scholarship. Applicants can enter with their own sponsor or the Lions Club will provide one. Deadline to enter is January 15, 2017.     SAND SCULPTING CHAMPIONSHIPS

    The 30th Annual American Sand Sculpting Championships will be held daily Nov 18-27 from 10am-5pm at Wyndham Garden Resort. The largest Sand Sculpting event in Florida features 16 master sculptors, over 40 sculptures, contests, vendors, live music, lessons and demos and plenty of kids’ activities.
