One Million Miles
Healthy Lee and Lee Health have an interesting challenge for area residents, seasonal guests, and vacationers over the next 12 weeks – walk, run, bike, swim, and be active for one million miles!
The Million Mile Movement Challenge is a free community journey toward better health that runs from Monday, January 9, through Friday, March 31. To keep an accurate record of your daily participation during the challenge with exercises such as walking, jogging, bicycling, and swimming, as well as translating a variety of other healthy activities into miles, log into the Million Mile Movement Challenge Portal at www.HealthyLee.com . All participants receive a weekly email newsletter with healthy tips and motivation throughout the 12-week program.
“The Million Mile Movement is a great opportunity to unify Lee County in health, and offers a free easy way for everyone to participate, from gated communities, neighborhoods, clubs, businesses, churches, and families,” says Robbie Roepstorff, Healthy Lee Chair and president of Edison National Bank. “Following the success of the inaugural Million Mile Movement’s goal of creating awareness, invite family, neighbors, friends and co-workers to join in and track their progress in step with other challengers.”
“This year, with the Million Mile Movement commencing at the start with the new year, it might be just what we all need to set a healthy goal, and to find the support and motivation to keep and reach it,” says Christin Collins, health and wellness business partner for Lee Health, and Million Mile Movement co-chair with Ben Siegel, deputy director of the Lee County Port Authority.
Registration is now underway, renewing automatically for those who participated last year; log in to update your profile and begin recording on January 9. For details or to register visit HealthyLee.com. The site offers healthy lifestyle tips for businesses, families, and children, including recipes, wellness tools, and a community calendar for healthy events taking place in Lee County.
“Activity is such an important component to a healthy life – it is good for our brains and overall well-being,” concludes Jim Nathan, founding partner of Healthy Lee and Lee Health president. “The Million Mile Movement is an innovative, fun, and inclusive way to empower all of us to move forward, and we are excited to step up to the challenge of attaining one million miles.”
