The Friends of the Mound House recently were awarded an Arts & Attractions Grant from the Lee County Tourist Development Council (TDC) to be used to market Mound House educational programs. This is the third year that the Friends have been awarded a grant. The grant received was $8,200. The Friends of the Mound House will match $5,000 and the Town will match $2,000. The Mound House, now listed on the National Register of Historic Places, is a unique Fort Myers Beach historical and archeological site, located on the shores of Estero Bay. Offering environmental and cultural programs, the Mound House shares the natural environment of the area and the rich history of the Calusa Indians and Early Settlers of Estero Island.
