Taste Of The Beach Sunday

The 22nd annual Taste of the Beach is so close, you can practically taste it! Savor specialties from many of the island’s premier restaurants at the Taste of The Beach, hosted by the Greater Fort Myers Beach Chamber of Commerce, on Old San Carlos Boulevard on Sunday, May 7, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

In addition to the scrumptious food, there will be the new Vendor Village, an updated Server’s Contest, and live music from Jo List & Friends from Noon to 4 p.m. Admission is $5 for children and adults, with kids 12 & under free; food tickets are $1 each, with an average plate costing roughly $5.

Local restaurants include Bayfront Bistro, Beach Baptist Church, Beached Whale, Camy’s Kettle Corn, Castaway’s, Dixie Fish House, Doc Ford’s, Fish House Restaurant, Jack’s Farm to Fork at the Pink Shell, La Ola, Nervous Nellie’s, Parrot Key Caribbean Grille, Pincher’s, Royal Scoop, Salty Crab Bar & Grill, Sunset Beach Tropical Grill, and Yucatan. Restaurants compete for Best Appetizer, Best Dessert, Best Chicken Dish, Best Seafood Dish, Best Decorated Booth, and the People’s Choice Award.

The updated Server’s Competition in the Vendor Village requires your favorite servers to move up-&-down stairs, through tires and a maze, and just about anything the Chamber can conjure up for cash prizes, beginning at 2 p.m. As in previous festivals, the Fort Myers Beach Friends of The Arts will sell beer as a fundraiser for that organization, with an open container waiver in place for the Taste grounds during the event.

“The coolest part of Taste of The Beach and what I love most is seeing the entire community come out and enjoy themselves,” says Jacki Liszak, Chamber executive director. “It showcases some of the very best food on the island, all in one place, with great music to boot. It is a true representation of Fort Myers Beach and it draws bigger crowds all the time, with over 3,000 people expected this year.”

The Chamber needs volunteers to assist with admission, ticket and water sales, along with set-up and clean-up duties. Volunteers receive free admission, 10 complimentary food tickets, and free water, with morning and mid-afternoon shifts available. To volunteer, contact Jacki at the Chamber at 239-454-7500, go to www.tasteoffortmyersbeach.com, or email at info@fmbchamber.com. For a delicious time, attend the 22nd annual “Taste of The Beach” on Sunday, May 7.
