Get your taste buds ready, Fort Myers Beach! May is coming in with a bang as the Greater Fort Myers Beach Area Chamber of Commerce’s 21st Annual Taste of the Beach is happening on Sunday, May 1st.
The Taste has grown to become one of our island’s premiere events – drawing crowds from all over the state and the country who want to sample the best of what area restaurants have to offer.
“We are going to continue the tradition of the last 3 years and hold the event along Old San Carlos Blvd. to Bayside Park, where a stage will be set up for the musicians to perform,” said Chamber President Bud Nocera.
Bud is especially happy about this year’s Taste because – at press time – 16 local eateries have already signed up to participate.
“Local restaurants will serve up samples of their best signature dishes available for purchase,” he said. “They will also be competing for the top Taste of the Beach Award honors in several categories including; Best Appetizer, Best Dessert, Best Meat, Best Chicken Dish, Best Seafood Dish, Best Decorated Booth and People’s Choice. There will also be the always-spirited Server Obstacle Course Competition.”
Restaurants who have signed up so far include: Matanzas on the Bay, PierSide Grill and Famous Blowfish Bar, Bootleggers Waterfront Barbeque; Cabana’s Beach Bar and Grill, Royal Scoop, Pinchers Crab Shack, La Ola, Fish Monger, The Fish House, Parrot Key Caribbean Grill, Nervous Nellie’s, Salty Crab, The Dog House, Beach Brew and Bakery and Jack’s Farm to Cook.
“The Friends of the Arts will also be there selling beer,” Bud said. “This is a big fundraiser for them, as all the proceeds from the beer tent go to that organization.”
The Festival gates will open at 11:00 a.m. and food will be served until it runs out or until 4:00 pm. Tickets will be available on-site. Admission is $5 for adults and children over 12. All children under 12 years will be free. Food tickets are $1 each, with the average plate costing around $5.
In addition to the great food, there will be amazing music! Favorite local songstress Jo List will take the stage at noon, and she has an entire afternoon planned of the best musicians our island has to offer.
“There are 3,000+ people expected to attend this event this year,” Nocera told us. “There will be a panel of celebrity judges to do the honors of judging. Winners will be announced from the stage at 4:00 pm.”
“Come down, join the fun and help support local businesses!”
