    POST FIREWORKS CLEANUP

    Join the Fort Myers Beach Community Foundation on New Year’s Day at 8am for a beach cleanup after the New Year’s Eve festivities. Help get our beach ready for our holiday visitors. Meet at 8am at the clock in Times Square. Bring water and sunscreen. Volunteers will be provided with gloves and bags.

    SONGWRITERS AT SUNSET

    The 2020 Songwriters at Sunset concert series begins TH Jan 2 at 3:45pm at the gazebo on the Lovers Key State Park beach. Friends of Lovers Key invites musicians from the Americana Community Music Association to offer monthly free acoustic concerts of all original music this season. Seating available in the gazebo for the first 80 people. Feel free to bring a beach chair. Prior to the concert FOLKS will host Gourmet Food Trucks on site with a portion of food and beverage sales going to the future Welcome & Discovery Center at the park. The Jan 2 concert will feature J. Robert and Brent Moyer. Free with paid park entry.

    SUNSET SINGALONG

    Looking for a new way to enjoy the fabulous FMB sunsets? On Thursdays, beginning Jan. 2, head to Bowditch Point Park for the Sunset Singalong. Warm-ups start at 4:45pm, with the singalong at 5pm – until just before sunset. Acoustically-led classics and a Top Ten hit list from the 60’s, along with old favorites. Bring a chair if possible. Come by tram, trolley, bike, car or on foot. Free. Parking is $2.hour.

    ANDERSON CONCERT

    Shell Point Retirement Community’s Concerts & Conversations series offers a jazz performance by Peter and Will Anderson at 7pm on TH Jan 2 at the Grand Cypress Room at The Woodlands at Shell Point, 14441 Woodsong Lane, Fort Myers. Identical twins Peter & Will Anderson are recognized as extraordinary jazz woodwind players and have performed in major venues both in the U.S. and aboard. Guests can enjoy fellowship and a dessert with the performers following the concert. All are welcome!  Tickets $30 and available at shellpoint.org/concerts or by calling 239-454-2067.

    SHRIMP DINNER

    Enjoy our area’s finest delicacy, Gulf Pink Shrimp, at the monthly Shrimp Diner offered at Historic St. Raphael’s Episcopal Church, 5601 Williams Dr. on SA, Jan 4 from 5-7 p.m. All you can eat GULF shrimp, homemade coleslaw, baked beans and cornbread. Soda included. Beer and wine tickets available. No reservations needed. $20 per person.

    GARDEN CLUB

    All those interested in SWFL gardening is invited to attend the next meeting of the Estero Island Garden Club on MO Jan 6 at 9am at the Fort Myers Beach Woman’s Club, 175 Sterling, FMB. Guest speaker Tony Mauriello will give a presentation on Florida Native plants and feeding butterflies. For more information call 978-460-1814.

    LYNN HALL CONSTRUCTION

    Lee County has announced that the dune walkovers at Lynn Hall Memorial Park, 950 Estero Blvd, FMB, will be replaced beginning in late December and continuing through April 2020. Public access to the beach will be maintained during the project. The walkovers are being raised to match the dune elevation and provide more efficient access for those crossing them.

    CARIBBEAN CAR SHOW

    Parrot Key Caribbean Grill hosts two car shows each month, on the 1st and 3rd MO. Next show Jan 6 from 4-7pm. Stop by to see some cool hot rods, classic cars and custom trucks. Free registration for car owners and free admission for spectators. 239-463-3257.

     YOGA AT THE GAZEBO

    Friends of Lovers Key State Park offers Yoga at the Beach Gazebo every MO morning at the park at 9:30am, beginning Jan 6. Instructor Sandy McShane offers an hour of Open Vinyasa Flow. $10/class plus park entry fee. Participation helps support the future Welcome & Discovery Center. Bring a yoga mat, water and any props you need. Arrive in time to park and take the tram to the beach. For more info call 774-563-8874

    TOUR MOUND KEY

    Join the Mound House educators for a tour of the Mound House and Mound Key, Capital of the Calusa Indians. On TU Jan 7 from 11:30 – 2:45pm, this tour begins at Fish Tale Marina as you board the Estero Bay Express for a boat ride to first the Mound House, then Mound Key. Learn about the rich Calusa history and new discoveries about this ancient people. Tour requires walking over rough terrain. Mound House Museum admission included. Cost: $55/person (MH members $50) Weather permitting. Reservations required at moundhouse.org Future Mound Key Tours are scheduled for Feb 9 & 27, Mar 9 & 27 and Apr 11 & 27.

    BLUEWAY SPEAKER

    Lee County Parks & Recreation offers a Calusa Blueway monthly speaker this season. On Jan 7 at 6:30pm, Lynette Brown will be the guest speaker for, “Circumnavigating Florida with the Grandchildren.” The speaker series is free and held at Wa-Ke Hatchee Recreation Center, 16760 Bass Rd, Fort Myers.  For more information or directions, call 239-432-2154.

    ART BAZAAR

    Stop by the Fort Myers Beach Art Association Gallery at 3030 Shell Mound Blvd, FMB on TH Jan 9 between 9am -2pm for their Open House & Art Bazaar. Tour their facilities and create some beautiful art of your own. Watch hands-on demos by artists, and browse the Art Bazaar filled with paintings, 3D art, cards, jewelry and more. 239-463-3909.

    HABITAT BUILDERS

    Would you like to help build housing for those in need? Chapel by the Sea’s “habitat Builders” work on behalf of the Habitat for Humanity organization. No experience or special tools needs. On-site training. The group departs Chapel each TH at 7:30am and returns by 3:30pm. Bring your own lunch, snack, water and soft drinks. For more details call

    FULL MOON WALK

    Awaken and sharpen your sense of smell, touch, hearing and night vision as you join two volunteers carrying candle-lit lanterns as night descends and the Full Cold Moon rises on FR  Jan 10. Adults only, limited to 12 participants. Program is free, but pre-registration at walkwiththemoon.com is required. Instructions will be emailed on registration. Offered by the Friends of Matanzas Pass Preserve. Walk will be held at Bowditch Point Park due to closure of MPP for construction. Exact time will be provided on registration.

    CAREGIVERS SUPPORT GROUP

    Those who care for loved ones with Alzheimer’s face special challenges. Every month on the second Friday of the month, Chapel by the Sea hosts a Caregivers Support Group from 1-2:30pm. Sponsored by the SWFL Gulf Coast Chapter Alzheimer’s Association, the group is conducted by trained facilitators. It is a safe place to develop a support system, exchange practical information on caregiving challenges and possible solutions, talk through issues and ways to cope and learn about community resources. There is no fee or registration. Next meeting: FR Jan 10 at 1pm.

    FULL MOON KAYAK TOUR

    Watch the sun set and the full moon rise as you explore tidal creeks and winding mangrove tunnels in the hidden backwaters of Estero Bay as only a kayaker can on FR Jan 10 at 4:30pm. Experience the abundant life within our estuary in the quiet of twilight by the light of a full moon. Reservations required at moundhouse.org. $45/person (MH members $15) All paddling equipment provided. Weather permitting. Maximum of 12 paddlers.

    PANCAKE BREAKFAST

    Bayside Estates Men’s Club hosts a monthly Pancake Breakfast every 2nd Sunday from November to March at the Bayside Recreation Hall. All are invited to attend. Their next breakfast will be held SU Jan 12 from 8-11am. Enjoy scrambled eggs, sausage, coffee, OJ and all you can eat pancakes for just $5. For another $1, get a made to order omelet. Bayside Estates is located just off San Carlos Blvd, south of Pine Ridge Rd. Look for signs at the entrance. Proceeds support Hope Hospice.

    BAY OAKS SOCIAL SENIORS
