The Friends of the Fort Myers Beach Library will host a Book Sale on SA, Feb 15 & SU Feb 16 from 9am – 2pm in the library’s parking garage at 2755 Estero Blvd. You’ll find gently used books, CD’s and DVD’s, puzzles and new items from the bookstore for sale. Artwork will be available via Silent Auction, plus the Estero Island Garden Club will be on hand with plants and baked goods. Hot coffee will be available from the Library Café. The March Book Sale will be held Mar 21 & 22. The library will be open normal hours: Saturday 9am -1pm. Closed Sunday.
BLESSING OF THE FLEET
The Blessing of the Shrimp Boat Fleets will take place SU, Feb 16 at 1pm on San Carlos Island. The event includes multiple food vendors selling shrimp and is sponsored by Ostego Bay Foundation, Fleet and Boat Owners and St. Raphael’s Episcopal Church. FMB COMMUNITY FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIPS
In 2019, the Fort Myers Beach Community Foundation awarded over $25,000 to numerous organizations who serve those living in and around the beach community. Any organization seeking funding or a donation is welcome to submit their request in writing on letterhead to the foundation. The foundation is currently seeking requests not only from charities but from those seeking tuition assistance. In 2019, they provided over $10,000 in scholarships. Scholarships may be used toward any form of education including trade schools and certificate programs. The program is designed to support the varied needs of each applicant, which might mean childcare for someone studying for their GED or someone returning to school for a certificate program. The Fort Myers Beach Kiwanis Club is now accepting scholarship applications from students in the 33931 zip code area for the 2020-2021 academic year. Applications can be found at fortmyersbeachkiwanis.org The $2,000 scholarships are renewable. The Dr. Leroy Hommerding Memorial Scholarship, worth $5,000, is awarded to the graduating senior with the highest GPA. First time applications must be received by March 27, 2020. Renewal applications must be received by June 1, 2020. Scholarship winners are invited to attend any Kiwanis meeting as their guest.
