    COASTAL CLEANUP

    The debris on our beaches and in our waterways is a public health threat and a serious danger to our ocean ecosystems. Keep Lee County Beautiful (KLCB) and the FMB Community Foundation invites everyone to help make a difference by participating in The International Coastal Cleanup on SA Sept 21 from 9am – noon. They will provide trash bags, gloves, t-shirts, cold water and healthy snacks. For Fort Myers Beach efforts, check in at FMB Elementary School, 2751 Oak St, FMB by 9am SA Sept 21.

     

    ADVISORY COMMITTEES

    Last call – anyone interested in serving on the Town’s volunteer advisory committees must complete an Advisory Committee Application online or by visiting Town Hall. Applications must be received by the Town Clerk by close of business FR Sept. 27 to be considered. Council will fill advisory committee vacancies at their first October meeting. The application and information about the different advisory committees is available at fmbgov.com under “Mayor & Council.” Town Hall is located at 2525 Estero Blvd., FMB.

     

    SUMMERSET REGATTA

    The Caloosahatchee Marching & Chowder Society will host the 54th annual Summerset Sailing Regatta off Fort Myers Beach on October 4 – 6. This beautiful display of sailboat racing will be a definite contrast to the powerboat racing the next week. Over forty sailboats will compete in a series of Buoy Races on Saturday and Distance Races on Sunday. Races start about 10am at the San Carlos Light. The boats should be visible from the beach on the north end of the island. The awards dinner will be at Parrot Key on Sunday evening. For more information contact Allen Fiske, 305-720-7494.

     

    PIER CLOSURE     

    The Fort Myers Beach Fishing Pier at Lynn Hall Park will be closed weekdays MO – FR through FR Sept 27 for roofing work and maintenance. The pier will open during weekends from sundown Friday to sunrise Monday. All other amenities at Lynn Hall Park, except the Pier, will remain open with regular hours.

     

    SUNSET CONCERTS

    Each Friday and Saturday, free Sunset Celebration concerts from 5-10pm fill Times Square offering an entertaining musical backdrop to a spectacular sunset. On FR Sept 20 & 27, High Tide will play; SA Sept 21 MFYF will entertain and on SA Sept 28 Double Standard. Show is pet and kid friendly. Stop by and enjoy the beach, restaurants, street performers, cold beverages and a beautiful sunset! Sunset Celebrations are sponsored by The Times Square Merchant & Event Association, The Town of Fort Myers Beach and The Beaches of Fort Myers & Sanibel.

     

    WOMAN’S CLUB

    The FMB Woman’s Club is open to all civic-minded women AND men. They offer volunteer opportunities and monthly social events for members and hosts the Alliance for all island Non-Profit Organizations. The next membership meeting is WE Oct 2 at 6:30pm at the Woman’s Club, 175 Sterling Ave, FMB. Guest Speaker will be Katy Beth Culp, new Mound House Educator.     YOGA

    Chapel by the Sea hosts a Yoga class every WE from 10:30 – 11:30am. Classes are geared toward beginners and positions will be modified so everyone can participate. $10 per class for Chapel member/$12 for non-members. 100 Chapel St, FMB.

     

    VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

    Roar Offshore Powerboat Races will be held on FMB this October. Volunteers are needed WE Oct 9 – SU Oct 13.     WHAT’S IN THE WATER?

    A joint program by the Mound House, FGCU and NOAA is seeking volunteers for island-wide water testing to research water quality in the local Gulf and Estero Bay waters on SA Oct 5 from 2 – 3 pm.     SIDEWALK CONSTRUCTION

    The Town has begun replacing the beachside Estero Blvd. paver sidewalk from 1400 Estero to Times Square this week. The existing pavers will be removed with concrete sidewalks installed. Pedestrian traffic will be rerouted. Motorists can expect minor delays.

     

    PROTECT OUR MANATEES

    Boaters are asked to be aware that they share our local waters with manatees. Slow down, honor slow speed zones and watch for signs of manatees in the water near your boat. Give them plenty of room. To report a sick, injured, dead or tagged manatee, contact FWC at

    CRAFT & RUMMAGE SALE

    Chapel by the Sea is planning a Craft & Rummage Sale for Nov 15 & 16. They invite residents to share their crafts and treasures with the Island community.     TURTLE LIGHTS

    Anyone with property near or on the beach should replace all exterior light bulbs with amber LED light bulbs to comply with state and local laws designed to protect nesting sea turtles. They must be LED bulbs. Amber LED lightbulbs can be purchased at Town Hall for $8.50 each during office hours: 8:30am – 4:30pm. Wildlife friendly lighting is also available from the Florida Fish & Wildlife Commission at myFWC.com. Remember to close your drapes to keep light off the beach!

     

    WATER EXERCISE

    The Beach Community Pool offers water exercise classes. Water Aerobics is offered every MO, WE & FR at 9am. It is an energizing form of aerobics that can be enjoyed by everyone. Whether you are looking to kickstart your fitness journey, increase joint mobility, lose weight or just have some fun, water aerobics is for you! Aqua Strength, offered MO & WE at 10am, is a high energy class that will strengthen your muscles, increase your endurance and improve mobility. Class is held in the deep end of the pool using water weights. Aqua Yoga, offered every FR at 10am, is a low impact class that offers a deep stretch, relaxed mind and a fresh start to the day. Class is held in the shallow end of the pool. Cost for each class is $4 if you are a Bay Oaks member or $6 for non-members. All FMB residents are eligible for a free Bay Oaks membership.     The Fort Myers Beach Library offers over 86,000 titles. Browse the collections, use the computers, read newspapers, visit the Library Café, Friends Used Bookstore or view the artwork on the 3rd floor, all in air-conditioned comfort!
