School’s out on May 26th for Lee County Schools. With less than a month until that magic day of freedom for school kids, it’s time to be thinking about summer camps. With a range of camps and costs, there’s something for everyone.
Island kids have some great summer camp opportunities this year. Bay Oaks Recreation Center offers Traditional Day Camp June 5 – August 4. Meeting Monday-Friday from 7:30am-6pm, camp offers weekly field trips, swimming, arts and crafts, sports and more. Ages 6-13. Beginning at $75/week for members or $100 for non-members. Ostego Bay Marine Science Center offers campers ages 6-15 the chance to explore some of our beautiful barrier islands and the waters of Estero Bay. Field and beach trips introduce campers to sea grass communities, mangrove tangles and more. Meets Monday-Friday 9am-4pm. Sessions begin June 12. Cost is $250/week. The 11th annual Sailing Camp at the Mound House will be held June 19-23 for ages 8-11. Learn the fundamentals of sailing or perfect your skills with this weeklong sailing camp. Camp is held 8:30am-3:30pm each day. Cost is $200. Students must be able to swim and have reached their 8th birthday. They should also bring a properly fitted PFD, closed toe shoes with a strap and clothing that can get wet. Class is taught by U.S. Sailing-certified instructors and junior instructors. Learn how to rig, launch and sail their boat independently, while developing an appreciation for safety afloat. Edison Ford Inventor’s Summer Camp
Join the Edison Ford Wild Wizards for a summer of new and exciting programs. Two different camps are offered each week May 30 – Aug 9, with campers grouped by grade level. Open to grades 1-6. Camp is held from 9am-4pm. Sessions include Video Game Development, Lego Engineers, Fantastic Film Makers, Sun Science, Robots and more. Lee County Parks & Rec Camp
Two parks near Fort Myers Beach offer summer camp activities: Lakes Park, 7330 Gladiolus, Fort Myers and Wa-Ke Hatchee Recreation Center, 16760 Bass Rd, Fort Myers. Camp is open to children age 6-13. Camp hours are 7:30am-6pm Monday-Friday. Camp sessions are June 5- July 28. Campers must bring their own lunch and snack.
