The inaugural Fort Myers Beach Special Olympics Walkathon will be held on the grounds of the Church of the Ascension on Saturday, February 23, 2019. Sponsored by the Knights of Columbus Ascension Council 10318, the event is open to participants of all ages, who may walk as many laps as they wish around the church parking lot for the walkathon. The event will begin at 9 am with a ceremonial procession led by the Knights of Columbus Ascension Council members. Special Olympics Florida athletes and unified partners will also participate.
Registration is $25 per walker in advance, or $30 at the event. The registration fee includes a Special Olympics t-shirt and entertainment the day of the event. To register for the walkathon, contact Dennis Robinson at 239-440-5511 or firstname.lastname@example.org
Special Olympics Florida – Lee County is a volunteer-driven organization that offers year-round sports programs for people 8 years old and older with intellectual disabilities at no cost to the athletes or their families. All individuals with intellectual disabilities are welcome. There is no upper age limit. Programs offered include training and competition in golf, bowling, basketball, track and field, aquatics, cycling, soccer, bocce and flag football. All financial support for Special Olympics Florida – Lee County is provided by local businesses, organizations and individuals.
