Special Olympics Walkathon


The Special Olympics Walkathon was held last Saturday, February 23 at Ascension Church, sponsored by the Knights of Columbus Ascension Council. The K of C council worked with Special Olympics Florida- — Lee County to organize the event, which met their fundraising goal of $2,500. Opening ceremonies included the National Anthem and Town of Fort Myers Beach proclamation read by Mayor Tracey Gore. Special Olympians then recited the Special Olympics Athlete Oath: “Let Me Win, But if I Cannot Win, Let Me Be Brave in the Attempt.” The walk was led by Ascension Council Grand Knight Dennis Robinson, the 4th Degree Color Corps and the Lee County Special Olympians, followed by walk participants.
