Smokin’ in the Mangroves

The unmistakable sweet smell of barbecue wafted over the crowd at Santini Marina Plaza last Saturday during the 6th Annual Smokin’ in the Mangroves. Several new professional and amateur grill masters participated in the event, with several selling out as smoked meat fans filled the plaza.

Bugtussle Ramblers entertained a hungry crowd at Smokin’ in the Mangroves.

The competition was broken down into Professional and Amateur divisions, with three different types of barbecue judged by celebrity judges: pulled pork, wings and ribs. The winners were:

Pro Division Pulled Pork:

1st Place: Oh My Hog (Shawon Lee)
2nd Place: Primo’s BBQ (Victor Adame)
3rd Place: Big Papa’s (Dana Hillis)

Pro Division Wings:

1st Place: Oh My Hog (Shawon Lee)
2nd Place: Big Papa’s BBQ (Dana Hillis)
3rd Place: FSU BBQ (Mando Adame, Jr.)

Pro Division Ribs:

The People’s Choice Award went to Big Papa’s Country Kitchen. Barbecue lovers can find them every Tuesday through April at the Santini Fresh Market.
