    The Matanzas Bridge will be closed to vehicular traffic on SA Mar 14 from 8:45 – 12noon for the Shrimp Festival 5K Run and Parade. Estero Blvd will also be closed from Red Coconut RV Park to Lynn Hall Park for the same time period.

    Estero Blvd between Santini Marina Plaza and Ascension Church will be closed 9:45 – 11am MO Mar 16 for the St. Patrick’s Day Parade.


    Fort Myers Beach voting precincts will be open for voting on TU Mar 17, from 7am – 7pm. Registered FMB voters will choose from seven town council candidates to fill three seats on council. They will also vote on two charter amendments. Amendment One asks if town elections can be moved to November to coincide with county, state and federal elections. Amendment Two asks if council terms should be extended from three years to four years. Those registered with a political party will be able to indicate their presidential candidate choice also. Early voting is available through SA Mar 14 at ten Lee County locations. Voters who have questions about where to vote can call 239- LEE-VOTE or visit online.

    The Lee County DOT will host a Public Hearing on the Big Carlos Pass Bridge Project Development and Environment Study on TH Mar 19 at Bay Oaks, 2731 Oak St, FMB. An Open House begins at 5pm, followed by a formal presentation and public comment period at 6pm. Attendees can view project displays and speak one-on-one with project team members. Project information and graphics are available at the FMB Library and at the Lee County DOT office, 1500 Monroe St, Fort Myers, until March 30. The fixed span bridge on the gulf side of the existing bridge was selected by the Lee County Commissioners in December 2018 as the preferred alternative.


    If you haven’t attended any of the Friends of the Arts Concert Series, there is just one concert left and this is one you don’t want to miss! “Back to Chicago” featuring a special guest, former Chicago lead singer Jeff Coffey, will present a concert on TH Mar 19 at The Propeller Lounge at Fish-Tale Marina, 7225 Estero Blvd, beginning at 7pm. Tickets are just $30, with VIP reserved seating tickets for $50. Tickets can be purchased in advance at, the FMB Chamber of Commerce office (2450 Estero Blvd) or at the door if not sold out. Tickets are NOT available in the Fish-Tale office.


    The Free Resource Seminar and Lunch for seniors and/or their caregivers scheduled for TH  Mar 19, from 11:30am -2pm at Peace Lutheran Church has been postponed due to coronavirus concerns.


    The US Coast Guard Auxiliary will offer a one day Boating Safety Class on SA Mar 21 from 9am to 4pm. This beginner boating class will give the novice recreational boater the knowledge needed to obtain FWC safety certification and covers nautical “Rules of the Road,” boating hazards and navigation rules.     The Knights of Columbus of Ascension Parish will host their annual Irish Rover Dance on SA Mar 21 in the Parish Hall, 6025 Estero Blvd, FMB. Doors open at 5:30pm. The evening includes a catered dinner and music by Side by Side for your listening and dancing pleasure. Proceeds benefit the Ascension K of C local charities.     The 3rd annual Artful Intersection fundraiser, sponsored by the Friends of the Mound House to support the Mound House, will be held FR Mar 27 from 7-10pm at the FMB Woman’s Club, 175 Sterling Ave., FMB. The event will feature a strolling supper with hors d’oeuvres and a hosted bar, plus an auction of original artwork and one-of-a-kind adventures.     The annual Tea by the Sea Fashion Show Fundraiser to benefit Ostego Bay Foundation will be held on SA Mar 28 from 11am -1pm at Bonita Bill’s Waterfront Café meeting room at 702 Fisherman’s Wharf on San Carlos Island. The vintage tea menu includes tea, buffet lunch, savory dishes and pastries, complimented by fashions of Fort Myers Beach. Tickets $25/person. Limited seating.     Each Friday and Saturday, free Sunset Celebration concerts from 5-10pm fill Times Square offering an entertaining musical backdrop to a spectacular sunset. Show is pet and kid friendly. Stop by and enjoy the beach, restaurants, street performers, cold beverages and a beautiful sunset!


    The Fort Myers Beach Art Association Gallery is located at the corner of Donora and Shell Mound. (3030 Shell Mound Blvd.) On exhibit now through Apr 2, is the Anything Goes Show. On Apr 4 – 8, the FMBAA will host their annual Student Scholarship Show with a reception and awards ceremony on SU Apr 5 from 1-3pm. All are invited! Hours are MO – SA 10am -3pm. Free admission.     The FMB Fire Dept. reminds all drivers that when traffic is backed up, leave a gap at intersections to allow emergency vehicles access to all side roads. Those streets are the only access emergency services have to reach those who need help. Leave a Gap!


    The Fort Myers Beach Kiwanis Club is now accepting scholarship applications from students in the 33931 zip code area for the 2020-2021 academic year. Applications can be found at The $2,000 scholarships are renewable. The Dr. Leroy Hommerding Memorial Scholarship, worth $5,000, is awarded to the graduating senior with the highest GPA.     The Beach Community Pool offers water exercise classes. Water Aerobics is offered every MO, WE & FR at 9am. It is an energizing form of aerobics that can be enjoyed by everyone. Whether you are looking to kickstart your fitness journey, increase joint mobility, lose weight or just have some fun, water aerobics is for you! Aqua Strength, offered MO & WE at 10am, is a high energy class that will strengthen your muscles, increase your endurance and improve mobility. Class is held in the deep end of the pool using water weights. Aqua Yoga, offered every FR at 10am, is a low impact class that offers a deep stretch, relaxed mind and a fresh start to the day.     Join the Mound House educators for a tour of the Mound House and Mound Key, Capital of the Calusa Indians. On FR Mar 27 from 2:00 – 5:15pm, this tour begins at Fish Tale Marina as you board the Estero Bay Express for a boat ride to first the Mound House, then Mound Key. Learn about the rich Calusa history and new discoveries about this ancient people. Tour requires walking over rough terrain. Mound House Museum admission included.
