    SHRIMP DINNER

    Enjoy our area’s finest delicacy, Gulf Pink Shrimp, this Saturday, March 7 at Historic St. Raphael’s Episcopal Church from 5-7pm, 5601 Williams Dr. All you can eat GULF shrimp, plus homemade coleslaw, baked beans and cornbread. Soda, beer, and wine tickets included. No reservations needed. $20 per person.

    KIDS SHRIMP RUN

    This first event of the Lions Shrimp Festival on SA Mar 7 invites all kids K-5 to come to the Gulf Beach Road Access for a one-mile run on the beach. T-shirts for all participants and awards for the top three finishers boys and girls. Each grade starts separately. Run begins at 8am, get there early to register.

    OPENING DAY

    Everyone is invited to attend the Fort Myers Beach Little League Opening Day on SA Mar 7. The ceremonial “First Pitch” will be thrown by the Fort Myers Mussel Man mascot at about 11:30am, but come early to watch Tee ball teams play at 9am, Minor baseball & Major softball at 10am. Major baseball will play at 1pm. All activities are on the Bay Oaks ball fields. Turn off Estero at either Bay Rd or School St near the library.     YOGA AT THE GAZEBO

    Friends of Lovers Key State Park offers Yoga at the beach Gazebo every MO morning and the 1st & 3rd TH at the park at 9:30am through May. The FMB Yoga Project offers an hour of Open Vinyasa Flow Yoga. $10/class plus park entry fee. Participation helps support the future Welcome & Discovery Center. Bring a yoga mat, water and any props you need. Arrive in time to park and take the tram to the beach. For more info call 774-563-8874

    GHOST WARRIOR

    The final public meeting of the season for the Estero Island Historic Society will be held on MO Mar 9 at 7pm at St. Raphael’s Church, 5601 Williams Dr, FMB. Guest Speakers will be the authors of “Ghost Warrior – The Real ‘Martin Blank’ Green Beret in the Vietnam and Cold War Eras,” –  Martin G. LeBlanc and Janet Gottlieb Sailian. Hear from a man present at some of the most volatile moments of the Vietnam and Cold War eras. Free admission with EIHS donations accepted.

    DOLPHINS

    Join Monica Lynn at the Beach Library 3rd floor meeting room at 10:30am on TU Mar 10 for an engaging presentation on our local dolphin pod and their activities in the waters of FMB. Free.

    TOUR MOUND KEY

    Join the Mound House educators for a tour of the Mound House and Mound Key, Capital of the Calusa Indians. On MO Mar 9 from 1:30 – 4:45pm, this tour begins at Fish Tale Marina as you board the Estero Bay Express for a boat ride to first the Mound House, then Mound Key. Learn about the rich Calusa history and new discoveries about this ancient people. Tour requires walking over rough terrain. Mound House Museum admission included. Cost: $55/person (MH members $50) Weather permitting. Reservations required at moundhouse.org Future Mound Key Tours are also scheduled for Mar 27 and Apr 11 & 27.

    CRAFT FAIR

    Siesta Bay RV Resort will host a Craft Fair on FR Mar 13 from 9am to noon in Primero Hall. Over 50 vendors to browse. The Café will be open from 7am -2pm for breakfast and lunch. 19333Summerlin Rd, Fort Myers.

     ST. PATRICK’S DAY PARADE

    The 2020 St. Patrick’s Day Parade will take place on MO Mar 16 this year due to the local election on Mar 17. The 21st annual Parade begins at 10am. Parade entrants must contact Parade Coordinator Ray Murphy for information on registration and fees. 239-591-8803 or raymurphy870@gmail.com. Parade entrants meet at Santini Marina Plaza between 8:30-9am and the parade will begin at 10am, marching north on Estero Blvd about one mile to the Church of the Ascension. The parade will include color guards, civic, business and neighborhood groups, floats and musical entries. All are welcome to participate. Estero Blvd will be closed from 9:45am-11am on Mar 16 by the Lee County Sheriff’s Office. Anyone who needs to leave the island using that stretch of road that morning should make plans to leave before 9:30am.

    CO-ED SOFTBALL

    AUTHOR TALK

    The Friends of Lakes Regional Library will host authors Tom Hall and Robin Tuthill on Friday, March 13, 2020 at 1:00pm at the library. Hall and Tuthill will share the stories from their book ” Epic Fires of Fort Myers-Vol. 2.” No registration is required for this free program. 15290 Bass Road.

    AGING IN PLACE

    Peace Lutheran Church will be host a Free Resource Seminar and Lunch for seniors and/or their caregivers on TH  Mar 19, from 11:30am -2pm at Peace Lutheran Church, 15840 McGregor, Blvd, Fort Myers. A guest panel of professional Senior Aging Specialists will discuss important topics related to senior wellbeing. Topics for this program will include: A new South Fort Myers Florida Senior Center and community resources available to seniors such as senior safety programs, visual impairment resources, memory care support and education resources, home health, adult day stay, respite and assisted living questions, legal documents and financial planning, Elder Law, food resource programs, Medicare/Medicaid issues and more.     BOATING SAFETY CLASS

    The US Coast Guard Auxiliary will offer a one day Boating Safety Class on SA Mar 21 from 9am to 4pm. This beginner boating class will give the novice recreational boater the knowledge needed to obtain FWC safety certification and covers nautical “Rules of the Road,” boating hazards and navigation rules. The class is held at the Pine Ridge Community Center, 15660 Pine Ridge Rd, Fort Myers. Cost $45/person & includes study material.     IRISH ROVER DANCE

    The Knights of Columbus of Ascension Parish will host their annual Irish Rover Dance on SA Mar 21 in the Parish Hall, 6025 Estero Blvd, FMB. Doors open at 5:30pm. The evening includes a catered dinner and music by Side by Side for your listening and dancing pleasure. Proceeds benefit the Ascension K of C local charities.     TEA BY THE SEA

    The annual Tea by the Sea Fashion Show Fundraiser to benefit Ostego Bay Foundation will be held on SA Mar 28 from 11am -1pm at Bonita Bill’s Waterfront Café meeting room at 702 Fisherman’s Wharf on San Carlos Island.  The vintage tea menu includes tea, buffet lunch, savory dishes and pastries, complimented by fashions of Fort Myers Beach.     MH CUBA TRIP

    The Mound House International Travel Program is offering a trip to Cuba April 30 – May 8, 2020. The trip offers a look at the country’s cultural and natural heritage, from pre-Columbian communities to the 19th century sugar trade and more recent history like the 1959 Revolution.     The FMB Fire Dept. reminds all drivers that when traffic is backed up, leave a gap at intersections to allow emergency vehicles access to all side roads. Those streets are the only access emergency services have to reach those who need help. Leave a Gap!
