Seaside Gentian, Beach Botany

Seaside Gentian, Eustoma exaltatum, is the first flower article that I submitted to the Sand Paper and it will also be the last. A herbaceous annual that can reach a height of three feet, the Gentian is salt tolerant and makes its home in the coastal dunes of central and south Florida.

It was on August 19, 2011 that I sent the first wildflower article to the Sand Paper with the idea that I had a collection of flowers; why not share them? I am very grateful that the Sand Paper published some 377 of my articles about Florida plants and flowers. I am very sad that we are losing the Layfields and maybe their great paper. I am sure that many readers are also going to miss them. I don’t know what the future will bring. In the meantime, I will be posting flower and plant information on my  Facebook page.
