U.S. Chamber Offers $5K Grants
The U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation is offering $5,000 grants to small businesses that employ 3-20 people, have been harmed by the COVID-19 pandemic and are located in an “economically vulnerable community.” Fort Myers Beach qualifies. Funded by corporate and philanthropic partners, the Save Small Business Fund aims to provide as many $5,000 grants to as many small employers as possible to help them get through the next days and weeks. The application will be available at 3pm ET Monday, April 20, 2020 on the website savesmallbusiness.com The 10-minute application requires your W-9 form and basic information about your business.
The $5,000 grants will be awarded weekly until all funds are used, but only one application is needed. Once a grantee has been notified and submitted payment information that meets compliance checks, it will take 3-5 days to process the payment. The number of grants awarded will be scaled in proportion to the demand and available funds.
In announcing the grant program, US Chamber of Commerce Vice President Neil Bradley noted, “This is not just about what the Chamber can do, but what all of us can do together. It’s also about what we can do over time. Implementing the Paycheck Protection Program, the Economic Injury Disaster Loan (EIDL) program and the new Main Street Loan Facility will help stabilize many small businesses today, but then we must help them reopen, recover and grow. The Chamber is committed for the long-term.”
“We cannot and will not allow our country’s critical small business sector to collapse,” added US Chamber President Suzanne Clark.
A recent poll conducted by the U.S. Chamber and MetLife found that more than half of small businesses (54%) had closed at least temporarily or will close in the next two weeks. The grant is part of the Chamber’s Save Small Business Initiative, which includes a four-part effort including financial aid, resources & guidance, advocacy, polling and a call to action for the larger business community and government to help small businesses.
Partnering with the US Chamber Foundation on this grant program are Vistaprint, Travelers, Merck and S & P Global Foundation.
