On October 1, 2019, Fort Myers Beach Kiwanis President Roger Welton will pass the gavel to a new club President, Sandy Lepley. Welton is completing his second term as President, having served his first 25 years ago, about midway through the local club’s 52-year history.
Lepley, a Broker Associate with Century 21 TriPower Realty, has been a Beach Kiwanis member since 2012. She spent several years in the Fort Myers area as a child and moved to Florida in 1967 and Fort Myers Beach in 1998. She holds several advanced degrees and years of experience in education, health systems and marketing.
“Young Children Priority One” is a Kiwanis International project, focused on the health and well-being of young children. The Beach Kiwanis Club shares that focus. “This past summer’s International and Florida Kiwanis conferences were both in Orlando,” Lepley said. “We came home with some of Disney’s magic to share with members and volunteers to help the Fort Myers Beach Kiwanis Club with programs and community awareness of the needs of young children.”
In addition to the club’s focus on young children, they sponsor Key Clubs at South Fort Myers and Cypress Lake High Schools, K Kids Clubs at Heights Elementary (new) and Beach School and award scholarships. Other FMB Kiwanis projects include: Golisano Children’s Hospital (with a total donation of over $500,000), a Fun Run, Bay Oaks swim lessons, Little League, Beach School library, technology and the 5th grade trip. The Club also donates to the international Eliminate Project, whose goal is the elimination of maternal and neonatal tetanus.
The Beach Kiwanis Club invites anyone interested in working to improve the lives of children and the local community to join them at any upcoming meeting: Friday, October 4 at noon, with Beach School Principal Karen Manzi and PTO Chair Shannon Orlandini speaking, or Thursday, October 17 at 5:30pm, with speaker Sami Gravedoni of Senior Moves Management. All meetings take place at Bonita Bill’s Cafe meeting room at 702 Fisherman’s Wharf, Fort Myers Beach.
