Four years ago, Beachside Hospitality Group, owner of the Salty Crab Bar & Grill, was looking for a way to give back to the local community and decided to focus an annual fundraiser on funds to support the Golisano Children’s Hospital, then under construction. Over the past four years, their fundraiser, held with the support of Brinley’s Rum, have supported a variety of sorely-needed projects, according to Jason Powella, Lee Health Foundation Senior Special Events Planner.

This year, the March to May fundraiser, featuring Brinley’s Rum Buckets, raised $10,000, bringing the 4 year total to over $32,500. Powella explained that this year’s donation would be used to enhance the Pediatric Mental Health programs at Golisano. “It’s a real blessing to work with the Salty Crab for the last four years,” he said. “They’ve been a huge help in funding some underfunded programs.”

Bruce McElhone, Salty Crab General Manager estimated that the promotion uses between 30 and 50 cases of rum. “People really respond when they know it’s a fundraiser for a great cause.”
