Richard Hornack, Sr.



    Richard Michael Hornack, Sr. of Fort Myers Beach, Florida died 18 January 2016 at the age of 84. Richard was born 26 August 1931 in Lakewood, Ohio.

    Richard was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving honorably during the Korean War. He married Carol Jean Sharkody on 04 August 1956. Later he became a founder of Hornack’s Bowling Center in Cleveland, Ohio for 22 years after which he semi-retired to his piece of paradise: Fort Myers Beach, Florida where he and Carol owned Beach Travel Agency for 18 years. Their next adventure was Breaktime Sports Pub in Naples, Florida for 9 years. They traveled, had fun and met many wonderful people.

    Richard was an active member of the American Legion Post 135 and AMVETs and was a lifetime member of the VFW of Ft. Myers Beach.

    What a great life!!! He is survived by the true love of his life Carol; devoted children Carleen and Bill Simmons, Col (ret) Richard and Mary Hornack and Nadine Freeman. Loving grandfather of Dean Simmons, Kendrick, Rich and Steven Hornack, Allysia and Jason Freeman, sister in law Jean Sharkody and many nieces and nephews.

    His greatest joy was his family; always saying “The love of family is forever.”
