Local songwriter Athena Dawn took home the big prize – a slot at this fall’s Island Hopper Songwriter Festival – at the 1st Annual Mother’s Day/Mother Earth Rhythm of the Island Festival last Saturday. She will perform this fall during the Island Hopper Songwriting Festival to be held on Fort Myers Beach September 30-October 2.
The 1st Annual Rhythm of the Island Songwriting Festival brought a number of local songwriters to Santini Marina Plaza to share their original musical creations with an appreciative audience last Saturday.
Held in conjunction with Santini’s Mother’s Day event, the Songwriting Festival was the creation of the Marine Resources Task Force – an effort to broaden their environmental and education outreach on the island. Speaking at the event were representatives from Estero Bay Buddies, Turtle Time, MRTF, Fish Tale Marina, Crazy Woman Kayaks and the Audubon Society.
