Rare Deep Water Marine Snail Found on FMB

567

This Junonia shell was found on Fort Myers Beach, just south of Newton Park, on Tuesday, January 19 by Mary Jo Brunner. A deep-water marine snail, it’s rarely found washed up on our beach according to Biologist Parke Lewis. He surmised that the shell had been buried offshore, with one end exposed due to the barnacle growth. Those wishing to learn more about treasures that wash up on our beach are invited to participate in a free Guided Beach Walk offered each Tuesday morning at 9am at Newton Park, 4650 Estero Blvd.
