    Join the Estero Bay Buddies and Good Time Charters for a Brews on the Bay cruise SA May 13 from 5:30-8:30pm. Enjoy a sunset on the bay while sipping local craft beer.     The 25th annual National Letter Carrier Food Drive will be held on SA, May 13. Postal carriers and volunteers will collect food donations to stock food pantries for the difficult summer months. On May 13, donations of unopened and unexpired food in unbreakable containers can be left by your mailbox for collection. All food is welcome, but items especially needed are peanut butter, tuna, rice, beans, canned meat, fruit, vegetables and soup.



    The 10th Annual Lovers Key Turtle Trot 5K Run/Walk will be held on SA May 13 with an 8am start. A unique trail course over a hard-packed shell path, takes runners through a shady maritime hammock ecosystem. No running through beach sand. $35 adults; $25 youth (18 and under) through May 13. Day of race $40. First 500 get t-shirts. Register at www.friendsofloverskey.org Packet pick up and registration at 7am.



    Join Island friends and family at Chapel by the Sea for an Italian Spaghetti Dinner on SA May 13 from 5-7pm in Silver Hall. On the menu: Spaghetti, meatballs, spicy sausage w/peppers & onion, salad, garlic bread, dessert, cold drinks & coffee. $10 adults; $5 kids under 10 and Public Safety Personnel in uniform or with ID. Everyone welcome. Proceeds benefit fund for kitchen renovation.



    The BBQ feast that Islanders know and love as Popeyepalooza returns to the beach to benefit Island kids on SU May 21 at the Beach Pub beginning at noon. Expect live music all day, prizes, raffles, silent auctions and of course, great Popeye BBQ. Businesses or individuals wishing to donate prizes for the auction are asked to call Popeye at 239-244-4437.



    A little confused on the right way to install a car seat? The Fort Myers Beach Fire Control District, Safe Kids of Lee Coalition and the Golisano Children’s Hospital will conduct free car seat installations and inspections on WE May 24 from 1-4pm at Fire Station 32, 17891 San Carlos Blvd, Fort Myers Beach. Bring your child’s car seat and learn the right way – the safe way to use it to protect your child. If that time period is not convenient ,email PREVENTION@fmbfire.org to schedule an inspection or installation.



    The 2017 Lee County Delicious Dining Discounts Book from the Kiwanis Club of Fort Myers Gateway to the Islands is now available for just $25. The book offers BOGO (By One, Get One) dining discounts at 62 area restaurants, including 12 FMB locations. Most off-season discounts are valid through Nov 15, so pick up yours soon. The project supports Kiwanis youth-related projects including the Gladiolus Learning and Development Center, Healthy Start, United Way reading Program and Human Trafficking Awareness Program. Pick up your Dining Discount Book at the Kiwanis Thrift Store, FMB Chamber of Commerce office, Bennett’s Chiropractic, Indian Creek Resort or Gavin’s Ace Hardware.



    The 4th annual Island Hopper Songwriter Fest will return September 22-October 1, 2017 with new artists and new events. The free festival takes place over 10 days on SWFL most beautiful barrier islands, kicking off on Captiva Island Sept 22-24 and wrapping up on Fort Myers Beach Sept 29- Oct 1.     The Women’s Club of Fort Myers Beach invites all bridge players to join them every Tuesday and Friday, beginning at 9:30 a.m. for a day of social bridge. Players rotate throughout the day completing 6 rounds. Bring a bagged lunch and enjoy good company and great bridge playing. $5 for non-members; $3 for members. Proceeds from the day go to support various community activities around the island.     It’s turtle nesting season on our beach. Please do your part to protect the turtles, nests and hatchlings when they emerge! Shield your lights so that they are not visible from anywhere on the beach. Better yet, replace existing bulbs with Amber LED bulbs! Find lights here: bit.ly/turtlelites. Stack or remove beach furniture. Remove beach litter. Keep pets on a leash. Stay far away from any turtles or marked nests you may encounter! Fill in any holes you dig in the sand.     Estero Island’s oldest standing structure at the Mound House is now open as a cultural and environmental learning center. A unique archaeological and historical site on Fort Myers Beach located directly on Estero Bay, the Mound House offers a variety of programs for local residents & visitors. Experience this one of a kind museum that sits atop a 2,000 year old Calusa Indian Shell Mound. Open TU, WE & SA 9am-4pm at 451 Connecticut St. Overflow parking at 216 Connecticut.     The Fort Myers Beach Library offers a cool respite from a busy day. Enjoy an hour browsing the newspapers and magazines in the Living Room or sign up for some time on the library’s computers. Or participate in one of the programs offered each month in the 3rd floor Community Room. Anyone looking for a book for some beach reading should stop by the Friends Used Book Store on the 3rd floor.
