Polar Bear Plunge 2020

The Fort Myers Beach Polar Bear Club turned out in force on New Year’s Day for the 2020 Polar Bear Plunge at the Outrigger Resort. They came dressed as polar bears, penguins, sharks, princesses, flappers and more. Over 200 participants filled the Outrigger’s deck and bar area, spilling onto the beach. With the Gulf water temperature at 70 degrees, air temp just above that and the sun shining, many participated when it came time to ‘plunge’ into the Gulf of Mexico about 2:30pm. The event included live music by Smokin’ Bill and the Smokin’ Section and both silent and Chinese auctions to benefit Islander Jesse Loudermilk. If you missed this year’s event, put January 1, 2021 on your calendar now for the 16th annual Polar Bear Plunge.

The Krewe of Sloth participated in the Polar Bear Plunge in 1920’s themed-attire.
A good time was had by all.
Polar Bears of all ages participated.
As Polar Bear Club members wait, the “ice” is cut to make space to enter the water.
Raffle ticket sales supported this year’s fundraising efforts for Jesse Loudermilk.
