Few realize what it takes to put on an event. We recently put together a paddle board race around Lover’s Key. I had to work through the City of Bonita Springs, Lee County and the State of Florida. We had to get sign offs from the Sheriff, risk management, fire department, FWC, Coast Guard and others.
Thanks to the many different staff at the municipalities we were able to make it happen. We would like to recognize all the great staff. Lover’s Key State Park headed by Gloria Beauchamp and her staff took great care of us. Todd Richards of Lover’s Key Adventures went out of his way to help. For Lee County I spoke to Allyson Hall and she helped connect me with the fire department, sheriff, risk management, DOT and other county entities that needed to sign off on the event. Then there was Mike Hammond, the Blueway Director helped us with FWC and to get buoys. Joe Debacker also was great deal of help in finding a location and helping. The City of Bonita Springs, Lora Taylor and Patrick Lippy were awesome! They helped me get through all the paperwork. Tom Hart and the Coast Guard Aux and the Coast Guard along with the Sheriff made sure all were safe.
The Sheriff had two boats and two jet skis in the water and the USCG had a boat in the water and FWC had a boat in the water. Plus we had volunteers like Dana and her husband following the racers in kayaks to make sure they finished safely.
Our thanks to SWFL TV and David Eisenberg for getting pictures and drone footage of the event.
Many thanks to the County Commissioners, Bonita Springs Council and the State for their very professional and helpful staff. I am sure I missed some people and if you are one of them I apologize. To see pictures of the event go to facebook.com/cgtkayaks
