Into the Rainforests of Belize
The Mound House travel program’s inaugural tour to Belize and Guatemala took seven adventurers on an exciting trip of a lifetime from June 6 – 13. Our group included Gloria and Larry Abramoff, Gayle Crabtree-Pergoli, Kat and Jim Finderson, Ron Reum and Cherie Smith, eagerly led by Penny Jarrett, Mound House Education Coordinator. We were greeted at the Belize airport by Allan Chan, our in-country guide, and our able driver, Hugh. Highlights included the Mayan sites of Lamanai, Cahal Pech, Xunantunich and Tikal. The weather, while hot, was fantastic, since the only rain we had was at Tikal that cooled things down for us before reaching the Central Plaza. Our last stay was at Jaguar Reef Lodge where the waters were a brilliant blue and the snorkeling at the South Water Caye Marine Reserve was out of this world with many colorful fish and corals. All of the sites were memorable and our tour companions delightful!
