Meet the Candidates

On March 15th, Fort Myers Beach voters will head to the polls to elect two members of Town Council. There are six qualified candidates who will be on the ballot, plus one qualified write-in candidate, whose name will not be on the ballot, but a blank line will be provided to write-in the name.

Qualifying week ended Friday, January 29th at noon, solidifying the ballot. In alphabetical order the candidates are: Dan Andre, Dennis Boback, Bruce Butcher, Tracey Gore, Jack Green and Suzanne Katt. Ber Stevenson has qualified as a write-in candidate.

The Sand Paper has offered all candidates the opportunity to announce their candidacy and share their opinions with our readers at no cost. We will also print their answers to a series of Ask the Candidate questions throughout the month of February. The Island Sand Paper Campaign Policy has been shared with candidates and is available in our office or by email on request.

There are several candidate forums scheduled over the next few weeks giving Islanders ample opportunity to get to know the candidates. As of press time, the candidate forums we are aware of include Commotion by the Ocean sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce on February 24th, a forum sponsored by Hank Zuba, Al Durrett and Dan Parker at Fish Tale Marina on March 3rd and two forums to be held at Chapel by the Sea, one on February 10th and another on March 2nd.

As this campaign season begins, we asked all candidates a few brief questions this week about their background. Here are their responses:
