Thirteen local students were recognized by the Fort Myers Beach Lions Foundation and awarded $1,000 Lions ‘WE SERVE” scholarships last week to help pay for their post-high school educations.
Scholarship recipients were: Baily Faircloth, Jacob Franklin, Bridgette Myers, Annie Salyers, Jessica Smith, Taylor Sorrell, Elizabeth Swiersz, Sarah Swiersz, Madison Tezak, Jordan Wallace, Sydney Wallace and Holt Wallace.
The Lions Club sponsors and produces the annual Fort Myers Beach Shrimp Festival in March as one of the many fundraising events that help make these scholarships possible. In addition to funding scholarships for local students, the local Lions club uses Shrimp Festival proceeds to support a variety of vision-related efforts and other local charitable causes benefiting children and seniors.
Summer meetings for the Fort Myers Beach Lions Club are held the second Thursday of the month at St. Raphael’s Episcopal Church Parish Hall on Williams Drive. Visit fmblions.com for more information on becoming a member.
