Lee County students returned to the classroom on Thursday, August 10th. This means our roadways will see an increase in pedestrian and automobile traffic, including those bright yellow school buses carrying our most precious cargo. Often times, many drivers are confused about the rules of the road when it comes to stopping for a school bus, which is not only dangerous but can be costly too.
Florida law mandates what drivers must do when approaching a stopped school bus with flashing red lights. Failure to comply with FS Statute 316.172 will result in a written citation requiring you to pay a Civil Penalty of $266.00. This diagram illustrates when traffic must stop for a bus.
