Joseph A. Villers: 1950-2016

Joseph Allen Villers, 66, passed away peacefully on December 20th 2016 following a stroke. He is preceded in death by his father, Robert H. Villers and two sisters, Jackie and Joyce Villers.

Joe is survived by his three children, Jodi (Richard Hair), Joseph and Jami; his mother, Thelma (Charles Elkins) and his beloved partner of eleven years, Denice Knudsen.

Joe was a spirited fisherman, a loving father and son. He was happiest on a boat with good friends, spending time with his children and going on adventures with his love, Denice.

Joe Villers was raised on Fort Myers Beach. After studying business at Edison Community College, he became a shrimp boat captain and joined his father’s shrimping business. Joe was a boat captain for 18 years before taking over and greatly expanding the family business. Joe eventually sold Villers Seafood but never left the water. He was captain of the Sanibel Harbour Princess dinner cruise for a few years, as well as a shrimp broker for Erickson and Jensen. Upon retirement he bought a flats boat and got busy learning to fish local waters. Joe loved life in a big way and was taken too soon. He will always be remembered and loved by his fishing buddies, friends and family as they carry him in their hearts.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Guardian ad Litem Foundation, Captains for Clean Water, Ostego Bay Foundation or a charity of your choosing. Info: 239-334-4880.
