Homesteader History

Estero Island Historic Society

All those interested in Southwest Florida history are invited to attend the January 2016 Public Meeting of the Estero Island Historic Society on Monday, January 11 at 7 p.m. at the Fort Myers Beach Public Library, 2755 Estero Blvd., in the Community Room, 3rd floor.

Hear Pat Molter Emerson speak about homesteaders who lived in rural southwest Florida during the post-Civil War era and the land boom of 1926. Pat is the granddaughter of pioneers Jacob Sr. and Margaret Molter, who established a homestead off Pine Island Road. The family watched developers, who arrived in the 1950s, transform a small, rural farming community into what is now Cape Coral.

EIHS public meetings are free of charge and open to the public. Donations are welcomed.

Call EIHS at 239-463-0435 for details, or Fort Myers Beach Public Library at 239-765-8165.
