On December 3rd and 4th, the first step in the competitive selection process for a new Fort Myers Beach Fire Chief was held at the Hampton Inn Suites in Summerlin Square, Fort Myers Beach, FL. Of the original applicants, a review and validation process brought the number down to 15, and of those, 12 applicants chose to attend the interviews. The 12 highly qualified candidates consisted of some from Lee County, some from other areas of Florida and the rest from around the country. The interview team worked long and hard for two full days conducting a highly professional process (thanks to Jim Steffens and the JTS Association) to provide the Board of Commissioners with the four “best of the best.” The final selection process will take place on January 4 and 5, 2016, and the Board interviews and decision will be made at the public Board Meeting on January 5, 2016 at 10AM in the Town Hall Chambers.
I want to take this opportunity to thank the seven members of the interview team that were willing to give the District two full days from their busy schedules to support us in this process. The members of the team were Chief Kingman Schuldt from the Greater Naples FD, Chief Bill Lombardo from South Trail FD, Capt. J.P. Duncan from our own FMB FD and four from our Fort Myers Beach business owners/government: Al Durrett, Tim Cherry, John Lallo, and Maureen Rischitelli. What a Great Team!!
