    The 27th annual Fright Night takes place FR Oct 20 from 6-10pm at Bay Oaks Recreation Center. Visit the Haunted House (gentler version from 6-7pm) or the Haunted Trail outside, play games, win candy or visit the escape room. Don’t miss the costume contest for all ages. Food available for purchase. $4/person or $10/family of four.


    Experience the birds of Bunche Beach with a Bird Patrol Guide on SA Oct 21 at 8am. Bunche is an excellent spot for both migrant and resident waders and shorebirds working the mudflats at low tide. Also waterfowl, raptors and warblers. Free with paid parking.     The Estero Island Taxpayers Association invites all FMB taxpayers to join them for a discussion on Short Term Rentals at their meeting on TU Oct 24 starting at 6:30pm at the FMB Woman’s Club, 175 Sterling, FMB. Participating will be the Lee County Sheriff’s Office & FMB Fire District. The FMB Town Council has been invited. Come, listen, ask questions and share opinions so our council members know what the people of FMB would like to see for their Town.


    The Fort Myers Beach Art Gallery is now open MO-SA 10am-3pm. Their Fall Member Show is on exhibit in Studio 1 and the Summer Paint Group Show in Studio 2. Both shows run through Nov 2 with free admission. Classes offered for both beginners and experienced artists in a variety of mediums during the season.     The Lakes Park Fall Festival will be continue Oct 29 at Lakes Park, 7330 Gladiolus Dr, Fort Myers. Featuring a pumpkin patch, Halloween Express Train Ride, Hayrides, Scarecrows and more. Open MO-FR 6-9pm and SA and SU 10am-9pm Admission is free, but there is a parking fee. Various activities range from $2-$8.


    Anyone dealing with Alzheimer’s Disease and their caregivers are invited to attend Wayback Wednesdays on WE Oct 25 at the Knotty Bean Coffee Bar, 2801 Estero Blvd, from 2:30-4:30pm. Enjoy this safe haven to stay connected and have an enjoyable afternoon outing. Enjoy a relaxed afternoon in a judgement free zone. Play checkers, chess or cards or just hang out. No purchase necessary. Way Back Wednesdays is held every other Weds, so the next one will be Nov 8.


    Join Mound House Educators on TH Oct 26 at 9am to explore the variety of species that can be found along the shoreline on FMB. Meet at Newton Beach Park cottage, 4650 Estero Blvd. Wear sunscreen, appropriate clothing, shoes and hat. $15/person. 239-765-0865


    Public records are invaluable to businesses and organizations, and can help residents and consumers make better-informed decisions in their daily lives. The Lee County Clerk of Courts will offer a presentation, “The Value of Searching Public Records & Online Services” on WE Oct 25 from 1:30-3:30pm at Lakes Regional Library, 15290 Bass Road, Fort Myers. Learn what to do if you suspect fraud, waste or financial mismanagement involving court-appointed guardians over elderly, minor children and incapacitated individuals. Learn how to search public records for copies of deeds and mortgages; review court records of prospective tenants, employees, contractors and doctors; pay traffic tickets online; request postponement or excusal of Jury duty and more.


    The Fort Myers Beach Library offers a cool respite from a hot, busy day. Browse the library’s many collections, find a new author or sign up for some time on the library’s computers. Head to the 3rd floor to view the artwork of the artist of the month or stop in the Friends Used Book Store. The Knotty Bean Café on the 3rd floor is now open from 9am-3pm MO-FR.     The Mound House is a unique archaeological and historical site on Fort Myers Beach located directly on Estero Bay. A variety of programs are offered at this one of a kind museum that sits atop a 2,000 year old Calusa Indian Shell Mound.     Matanzas on the Bay will present “Wine on the Waterfront” a fundraiser for Operation Open Arms on SA Nov. 11 from 5-8pm. Premier wine tastings from around the world, fresh seafood and other culinary delights, plus live entertainment by Sheena Brook. Tickets $100/person. Operation Open Arms is a nonprofit dedicated to the care and treatment of military personnel and veterans with PTSD, facilitating $13.6 million in direct benefits for over 3,400 US troops.


    The Island will be home to two Farmer’s Markets this season. The Beach Baptist Market at Estero Blvd and Connecticut began in October and will be held every WE from 9am-2pm through April. The Tuesday market has moved from Santini Plaza to the Nervous Nellie’s parking lot across from Harbor House and will be called the Fort Myers Beach Farm & Art Market. The market will begin TU Nov 7 and will be held from 8am-noon every Tuesday through April. Many of the Santini Sunrise market vendors will participate in the new market. It will be managed by Local Roots Farmer’s Markets.


    Join Mound House staff on FR Oct 27 from 5:30-7:30pm for a sunset paddle through the tidal creeks and winding mangrove tunnels in the hidden backwaters of Estero Bay. Experience the abundant life in our estuary in the quiet of twilight. Reservations required 239-765-0865. $50/person (members $25) All paddling equipment provided.


    It’s time to clear the fishing line from the mangrove areas of Lee County. SA Nov 4th from 8am-1pm, volunteers will help clean up the back bay, starting from the Mound House. A volunteer appreciation BBQ will be served after clean up. Volunteers go out in boats, kayaks, canoes, jet skis and anything else that floats to remove fishing line and other harmful debris from the back bay. Removing the debris helps wildlife and improves the health of the bay. Sponsors of the effort include FMB Community Foundation, Town of FMB, Advanced Disposal, Waste Pro and Sam Galloway Ford.     Head to the Seven Seas house at Newton Park on Tuesday at 5:30pm or Wednesday at 8:30am for a yoga class taught by Susan Carter, RYT, an instructor with over ten years of experience. This drop-in yoga class is for all levels of yoga experience. Participants should wear comfortable clothing and bring a yoga mat if they have one. $10/class. 239-765-0865


    The Mound House offers boat tours to Mound Key. The tour leaves port from Fish Tale Marina aboard the Estero Bay Express for an exclusive experience including a visit to the Mound House and then onto Mound Key, Capital of the Calusa. Learn the rich history of the Calusa as well as new findings scientists are discovering about this ancient society. Guest will disembark and hike the trails of Mound Key.
