Last Saturday, Fish Tale Marina sponsored our 3rd annual “Pancakes on the Bay” fundraiser to benefit the Beach Elementary School. In only two hours, our hungry friends from the community donated $2,100 as they gobbled up piles of pancakes, bacon and sausage that were generously provided free by Truly Scrumptious restaurant. Truly Scrumptious is owned and operated by David and Michelle Pyle, with a lot of help from Nicholas Pyle who is a 4th grader at our school. Skye’s Restaurant in Santini Plaza supplied complementary Bloody Mary’s for our adult guests.
Kathy and Al Durrett organized the event again this year, providing the location next to their Ship’s Store at Fish Tale Marina, along with the tables, chairs and huge pancake griddles. With much help from a cast of locals, Alan Mandel and his crew toiled in the hot sun flipping pancakes until everyone had eaten their fill. Michele and David Pyle kept up with the continued requests for more batter and meat as the morning wore on.
The money donated will make its mark at our school by supporting field trips, classroom supplies and various activities throughout the year. The bonus is that everyone who participated had a lot of fun and contributed to our designation as a true “Community School.”
