On Wednesday, July 19th, The Fort Myers Beach LIONS Club delivered a $8,750 check to Barbara’s Friends at Golisano Children’s Hospital from their Lori Collins Kinzie Fund, a fund established originally as a Cancer Fund and named after a young woman who passed away in 1985. One of its purposes was to help pay travel costs for those in need of medical treatment outside Southwest Florida.

The Fort Myers Beach Lions Club is responsible for the Annual Shrimp Festival held on the second weekend in March every year. All proceeds from that event are donated to a variety of Lions charities.
Barbara’s Friends was established by Betty and Frank Haskell in honor of their daughter Barbara who lost her life at a young age to breast cancer. During her 4-year battle with her illness, she marveled at the bravery of children with cancer and wanted to help those children. After her passing, her parents established Barbara’s Friends, which is dedicated to providing resources to fulfill treatment and educational needs of pediatric oncology and hematology patients at Golisano Children’s Hospital.
