The Knights of Columbus will host their annual Valentine’s Dinner & Dance on SA Feb 11 at the Church of the Ascension Parish Hall, with live music by Sanchez Entertainment for your listening and dancing pleasure. BIG BAND MEMORIES
The St. Peter Lutheran Church Concert Series will present “Big Band Memories” MO, Feb. 13, at 7 p.m. The concert will feature top hits of the fabulous Big Band Era including swing tunes and ballads performed by the popular 15-piece Southwest Florida Big Band. Learn about life in SWFL from the 1880’s to the 1960’s from Robert Ballard, a 5th generation Florida Cracker who traces his family’s early settlement on Cayo Costa and Pine Island Sound. This presentation by the Estero Island Historic Society will be offered on MO, Feb 13 at 7pm in the Beach Library 3rd floor Community Room. Using old land records, family letters and photos, Ballard describes 80 years of life for a pioneering family in SWFL in this fascinating presentation. The Beach Area Civic Association will hold a meeting on TU Feb 14 at 6:30pm in the Bonita Bills meeting room. Due to conflicting meetings, BACA will hold two meetings in February; their first was held on TH Feb 9 and another one on TU Feb 14. New members welcome. A review of issues BACA are tracking will be provided.
The Feb. 1 Fort Myers Beach Art Association “Paint Around” Social raised over $1500 for their Student Scholarship Fund, benefiting graduating high school seniors who will have a show at the FMBAA Art Gallery March 25-29. The FMBAA Spring Juried Show will be on exhibit in the gallery Feb 13-March 23 with a Gallery Talk (1pm) and a Reception (2:15pm) on Feb. 19th. The Studio 2 gallery will feature an exhibit of the Painting Groups from Feb. 11-23.The FMBAA offers short workshops for those interested in learning to paint. The Fort Myers Beach Community Foundation will hold its February membership meeting on Feb. 15th at 5:30pm at the Fort Myers Beach Woman’s Club. FRIENDS OF THE MOUND HOUSE
The Friends of the Mound House has announced another upcoming event that will directly support the ongoing preservation and educational programming of the Mound House. On Friday, February 17, 2017 they will once again host “If These Walls Could Talk” at St. Raphael’s Episcopal Church. This is a humorous ‘spoof’ written by Laurie Nienhaus about some of the incidents in the Mound House’s diverse and eclectic history. This was a sold-out success in November and tickets for the Feb 17 performance are limited to 125 people. Tickets are $25 each and include wine and cheese before the curtain goes up at 7:30 p.m. Doors open at 7:00 p.m. For tickets, call Ceel Spuhler at 239-765-6472.
WALKING & BIKING PLAN
Want to improve walking and biking in the Ft. Myers Beach? This is your chance! The Ft. Myers Beach Community Input Map is the first step in a larger effort to improve walking and biking in the Town. Ft. Myers Beach, in partnership with the Lee County MPO and Lee County, is undertaking the development of a Bicycle and Pedestrian Master Plan. Attend a community workshop on Wed., Feb 15th from 5:30-7:30pm in Town Hall. What would encourage you to walk or bike more often? NEW CHILDREN’S GARDEN
The Lee County Library System, Lee County Parks & Recreation and the Lakes Park Enrichment Foundation have partnered for a StoryWalk® for people of all ages set to open Saturday, Feb. 11. Follow along the picture book “Plants Can’t Sit Still” as you explore the new Children’s Garden at Lakes Park. Free ice cream will be provided for the first 30 children who complete the walk. Lakes Regional Park is located in south Lee County at 7330 Gladiolus Drive. The StoryWalk® is open to the public during regular park hours. The Children’s Garden is located near Parking Lot 3. VISIONS OF THE PAST
Travel back through time with Visions of the Past on SA Feb 25 from 9am-1pm. Your guide will lead you along the trail to visit and hear from the Calusa Indians, Spaniards, Explorers, Pirates, Homesteaders, Koreshans and Pioneers of Estero Island/Fort Myers Beach.
