Opening Day is still two weeks away but the boys and girls of the Fort Myers Beach Little League scored big this week! The FMBLL was one of six local leagues selected to each receive over $10,000 worth of baseball and softball equipment from the Pitch In For Baseball & Softball program during the Minnesota Twins Open House on Monday, February 17 at Hammond Stadium in the CenturyLink Sports Complex. The equipment just kept coming – gloves and helmets, bats and balls – and the smiles were nonstop, on both kids and coaches.
Twins fan and Florida resident and philanthropist Dave Copham made the equipment donations possible with a $50,000 donation to the Pitch In For Baseball & Softball organization, which provides baseball & softball equipment to children around the world. This was the first time the program has held an event in SWFL.
Following the distribution of equipment, the young players participated in a free clinic with Twins players. The Fort Myers Beach Little League will host their Opening Day on Saturday, March 7 at the Bay Oaks ballfields.
