FMB & Lions Weekend to Shine

This is Fort Myers Beach’s biggest weekend of the year – Shrimp Festival Weekend!

From the Shrimp Fest 5K starter’s pistol Saturday morning to the very last Lions Shrimp Dinner sold late Sunday afternoon, our Island will be packed with visitors and locals enjoying a tradition that has real staying power – 62 years of it!

Each parade entry, every runner in the 5K, every Shrimp Princess, every vendor in the park, all ten Shrimp Eating Championship contestants and every person lined up on the curb hoping to catch some candy – they are each and every one, helping to support local charitable causes via the Fort Myers Beach Lions Club charities.

The FMB Lions Club supports much more than sight-related local and regional charities – their most well-known causes – they also support youth sports on Fort Myers Beach, the Fort Myers Beach Elementary School and the Cypress Lake High School Booster Club. They’ve donated to Golisano Children’s Hospital Barbara’s Friends supporting pediatric cancer families and provided a Buddy Bench at Beach School and each year, they make higher education a bit more affordable for recipients of their We Serve Scholarships. When someone in our area needs vision care and lacks funds to get that care, the FMB Lions step up, providing funds for eye care and eye surgeries! The list of FMB Lions Club charitable efforts is long – this is but a partial list.

Best of all, they support those causes by providing the beach’s signature fun event and they make it all look easy! Don’t let them fool you, a whole lot of planning and effort go into this weekend’s events. Watching the Parade or wandering through the Art Fair & Expo or even watching the Shrimp Queen Pageant, know that a team effort made each of those events possible. Thank you to everyone who played a part in this year’s Shrimp Fest!

Every dollar raised this weekend will support Lions Club charitable efforts. This is possible because of the amazing support this festival receives from the community and volunteers. There’s no need to explain to anyone in SWFL what Shrimp Festival is – it’s been going on for over six decades – in much the same format you see today.

Shrimp Fest and Fort Myers Beach – they just go together!

When you spot one of the Lions in their bright yellow vests this weekend, thank them for their community support. Better yet, ask them how you can help as a volunteer next year or by joining the FMB Lions Club.

Welcome to Fort Myers Beach & Happy Shrimp Festival Weekend!
