Beach School first graders in Mrs. Reed’s class, have been learning about American Indians with the help of teaching assistant Denise Hagge. After students selected a tribe to study, they read some Indian folktales and completed activities and worksheets. Then they wrote their own story, converted the story into symbols and drew the symbols onto their “buffalo hide” (paper bag). Then they practiced presenting their story so they could do it smoothly and confidently. Which they did! Shown here with their “buffalo hide” stories are, from left: McKenzie, Cyline, Ella, Parker, Grettel and Ava. Photo by Denise Hagge.
