    QUILT SHOW

    On SA Oct 19 from 10am – 2pm, Edison & Ford Estates will host the annual “Airing of the Quilts” quilt show. Dozens of quilts from the Quilters Guild will be on display on clotheslines with select antique quilts on display inside the Thomas Edison house, Henry Ford house and Edison guest house. Quilters Guild participants will also have quilts available for sale. The quilt show is included with admission to the Edison Ford Estates, 2350 McGregor Blvd, Fort Myers.     BUNCHE BEACH BIRDS

    On SA Oct 19 beginning at 8am, enjoy beautiful Bunche Beach, an excellent birding site with a Bird Patrol Guide. Bunche is an excellent spot for both migrant and resident waders and shorebirds working the mudflats at low tide. Also warblers, waterfowl and raptors.     FALL FESTIVAL

    The Lakes Park Fall Festival is in full swing with Scarecrows in the Park, Halloween Express train rides, a pumpkin patch and lots more. Festival runs through Oct 27 with Halloween Express train rides through Oct. 31. Hours 6 – 9pm MO – FR, plus 10am -9pm SA & SU. (Train ride also on MO- FR 10am -2pm) Admission free, fee for parking. Activities vary in cost.

    BLOOD DRIVE

    The Lee Health Bloodmobile will be at Chapel by the Sea on SU Oct 20 from 8:30am – 12:30pm. To donate you must be 17 years old, weigh at least 115 lbs. and be in good general health. Drop in to donate a unit of blood that can save the lives of several people or make a specific appointment for Oct 20 by calling 239-463-3173.

    BAY HARBOUR

    The Lee County Board of County Commissioners will hold a Comprehensive Plan Amendment and Zoning Public Hearing for Bay Harbour Marina Village on WE Oct 23 beginning at 9:30am in Lee County Board Chambers at 2120 Main St., Fort Myers. They will review the Hearing Examiner’s written recommendations and make a final decision on the case. The Bay Harbour request would rezone ~7.47 acres at 1135 and 1195 Main Street on San Carlos Island from Light Industrial, Marine Industrial, Commercial and Mobile Home Residential to a Mixed-Use Planned Development to permit a maximum of 113 residential dwelling units, including 33 Bonus Density dwelling units, a marina with 286 dry slips, 29 wet slips, a boat launching facility, 30,000 sf of commercial retail/office and mini-storage, a parking garage with 200 public parking spaces and 20,000 sf of civic space with a max building height of 145 ft.     DORIAN RELIEF CONCERT

    Music for Hope, a Hurricane Dorian Relief Concert featuring Paul Todd and Paul Todd, Jr. will be held on TH Oct 24 at 7pm at Beach United Methodist Church, 155 Bay Rd, FMB, A love offering will be taken with 100% of all funds raised going to benefit the many victims of Hurricane Dorian.

    NEWTON PARK WORK

    The restrooms at Newton Beach Park will be closed through Thanksgiving for remodeling. Water is on for the outdoor showers and water fountains.

    FRIGHT NIGHT

    It’s not too early to make plans for Fright Night, the annual Halloween event at Bay Oaks Recreation Center on FR Oct 25 from 6-9pm. Right now, volunteers and candy are needed. Sign up to help setting up, decorate or play a spooky role in the haunted House! If you can donate candy, please drop it off at Bay Oaks Recreation Center, 2731 Oak Street, FMB.     SURFERS FOR AUTISM

    On SA Oct 26 from 9am – 4pm, Surfers for Autism with Lee County Parks & Recreation and the Calusa Blueway will host the 9th Annual Gulf Coast Surf & Beach Festival at Crescent Beach Family Park on FMB. Surfers for Autism is an organization with a mission to unlock the potential for children and young adults with autism and other development delays through surfing. The event, including lunch, is free to surfers, their families and registered volunteers. Surfers, their families and volunteers are also invited to participate in Sunday Funday on Sun Oct 27 with tours of Ostego Bay Marine Science Center and the US Coast Guard Station. Register for Sunday Funday at the Saturday event. Volunteers are needed. You do not need to be a surfer to help. Register at www.surfersforautism.org

    PRESCHOOL STORY HOUR

    There’s fun to be had at the weekly preschool story hour at the Beach Library every Wednesday from 10:30 – 11:30am. An interesting story and related craft activity will delight your young ones, so stop by and enjoy!

    OSTEGO BAY

    The Ostego Bay Foundation will celebrate 28 years of service to the community with an Open House Anniversary Party on SA Oct 26 from 10am-4pm at the Marine Science Center, 718 Fisherman’s Wharf, FMB. Ostego Bay Foundation is known for its youth summer camps, Florida Naturalist Programs and guided Waterfront tours.     NIGHT ROADWORK

    Overnight road work (7pm – 6am) with intermittent lane closures is scheduled on Estero Blvd on the evenings of SU Oct 27 and MO Oct 28 from the base of the Matanzas Bridge to Avenue C. The work will involve milling & resurfacing the road, plus adjusting manholes. On TU Oct 29 the work will move south and continue intermittently for 10-12 nights. Watch for signage.

    BEACH N’ BREWS

    Join the Friends of Lovers Key State Park on FR Nov 8 from 6-9pm for a night of music and fun on the beach featuring craft beer from local breweries and delicious food from popular food trucks. Several local breweries will be offering their unique brews including Momentum, Millennial, Naples Beach, Big Blue, Riptide, Fort Myers and Coastal Dayz. Food trucks from the DogHouse and Cajun Gringos will be on site. Live music. $50 for regular admission includes a commemorative cup and free beer samples all night. $75 VIP tickets include an earlier arrival at 5pm, VIP restrooms, gazebo seating, gift bag and a beautiful sunset.
