    BEACH CLEANUP

    TUNASKIN and Keep Lee County Beautiful will host the Second Annual Beach Keepers Club event on SU, Feb 5 from 9am-1pm at the TUNASKIN store, 1300 Estero Blvd. Parking reserved at Norms Parking, 1395 Estero Blvd, just south of the store. First 100 participants receive a special shirt. Other sponsors include Tuckaway Bagel Café providing bagels and coffee and Hooters, providing food and drinks after clean up.

     

    CAR SHOW

    On MO, Feb 6, from 5-8pm at Parrot Key, the Caribbean Cruise-In Car Show hosts hot rods, classic cars and custom trucks. Held on the first and third Monday of the month through April. Free and open to the public. Prizes. 239-463-3257

     

    LANES SHIFTING

    Beginning Monday night, Feb. 6, crews will start shifting traffic to the outside lanes of Estero Blvd to begin construction in the center turn lane from north of Chapel St. to south of Lovers Ln. During this work, barrier wall or construction barrels will be necessary on both sides of the center lane due to a 1 to 1 ½ -foot difference in elevation between travel lanes and the work zone. Vehicles, pedestrians and bicyclists will be able to cross Estero Boulevard in this zone (Chapel St. – Lovers Ln) at the following locations: Town Hall, Tropical Shores Way, School St or Bay Rd.     BAY OAKS FRIENDS

    The next meeting of the Friends of Bay Oaks will be TU, Feb 7 from 5:30-6:30pm in the Bay Oaks Senior Room. New Parks & Rec Director Sean De Palma will discuss staff priorities and several questions the Friends have posed regarding Bay Oaks. All are welcome!

     

    GARDEN CLUB

    All are welcome to attend the Estero Island Garden Club meeting on MO Feb 6 at the Beach Library 3rd Floor Community Room. Social time is from 9:15-9:45pm preceding the Guest Speaker Debbie Hughes, Senior Horticulturist at the Edison Ford Estate.     DINNER DANCE

    The Knights of Columbus will host their annual Valentine’s Dinner & Dance on SA Feb 11 at the Church of the Ascension Parish Hall, with live music by Sanchez Entertainment for your listening and dancing pleasure.     EARLY COASTAL LIFE

    Learn about life in SWFL from the 1880’s to the 1960’s from Robert Ballard, a 5th generation Florida Cracker who traces his family’s early settlement on Cayo Costa and Pine Island Sound. This presentation by the Estero Island Historic Society will be offered on MO, Feb 13 at 7pm in the Beach Library 3rd floor Community Room. Using old land records, family letters and photos, Ballard describes 80 years of life for a pioneering family in SWFL in this fascinating presentation.     BIG BAND MEMORIES

    The St. Peter Lutheran Church Concert Series will present “Big Band Memories” MO, Feb. 13, at 7 p.m. The concert will feature top hits of the fabulous Big Band Era including swing tunes and ballads performed by the popular 15-piece Southwest Florida Big Band.     FMB FOUNDATION

    The Fort Myers Beach Community Foundation will hold its February membership meeting on Feb. 15th at 5:30 at the Fort Myers Beach Woman’s Club.     TOMMY O CONCERT

    On TH, Feb 16 at 7pm at Chapel by the Sea, enjoy a concert performance featuring Tommy O, aka “Elvirotti,” which acknowledges his vast range of performances from Elvis to Pavarotti. Tommy O offers impeccable showmanship, leaving audiences with the gift of indelible joyous memories. Free will offering.

     

    MOON WALK

    The Friends of Matanzas Pass Preserve will host their monthly Moon Walk in the Preserve’ on FR Feb 10 at 5:50pm. This experiential hands-on program will awaken and sharpen participant’s senses of smell, touch, hearing and night vision. Join two volunteers carrying candle-lit lanterns through the Preserve as night descends and celebrate the darkness and the moon. Program is free, but pre-registration is required. Adults only.     GOT TALENT?

    The 6th Annual Fort Myers Beach Got Talent contest will be held on Sat., Feb 18th at Santini Marina Plaza. All are invited to this event that runs from 9am-1pm and includes an artisan market with 30+ local artisans, many providing on-site demonstrations, plus the Santini Fresh Produce Market and food & beverage offered by Santini Restaurants and Big Papa BBQ. The talent contest begins at Noon, with contestants asked to pre-register by calling Bonnie at 239-443-8810. Contestants must report to the stage tent by 11:30am.     BEACH UNITED METHODIST

    The Sheriff’s Office will present “Personal Safety” and “Active Shooter for the Community” on Mon., Feb. 13th at 9:30am in the church. All are welcome to attend.

    CONSERVATION 20/20

    Join the Friends of the Matanzas Pass Preserve for their annual meeting with Special Guest Speaker Cathy Olson, Lee County Parks & Rec Acting Director and Manager for Conservation 20/20 on Tues., Feb 14th at 5pm at the Beach Library. Olson will speak on the Conservation 20/20 program-How it works and how we benefit. Refreshments served. All are welcome. Free.

     

    VISIONS OF THE PAST

    Travel back through time with Visions of the Past on SA Feb 25 from 9am-1pm. Your guide will lead you along the trail to visit and hear from the Calusa Indians, Spaniards, Explorers, Pirates, Homesteaders, Koreshans and Pioneers of Estero Island/Fort Myers Beach. Experience facts, folklore and customs of these bygone eras. Free guided walks are held every 20 min starting at 9am. Reservations strongly encouraged. Call 239-432-2154 or email lcarr@leegov.com.     SHRIMP FEST

    The 59th Fort Myers Beach Lions Club Shrimp Festival is approaching fast! On SA Mar 4th the one-mile Kids Shrimp Run will take place on the beach. On SA Mar 11, the 5K Shrimp Fest Run in cooperation with the Cypress Lake High School Athletic Booster Club, will begin at 9am at Doc Ford’s. Runners and walkers welcome. To register visit active.com and search ‘shrimp run.” The Parade will begin SA Mar 11 at 10am at Bay Road and end at Lynn Hall Park where the Food and Crafts EXPO and Shrimp dinners will be available. The Shrimp Festival Queen will be crowned at 1pm in the park. The Expo and Shrimp Dinners continue on SU Mar 12, plus the Shrimp Eating Championship will be held at 1pm.
