Community Foundation Awards


The Fort Myers Beach Community Foundation held their Awards evening Wednesday evening on Flippers bayside patio. Foundation President Barb Mezeske told the crowd that the group would be awarding nearly $30,000 this year in scholarships and awards to community groups. Awards include:

Bay Oaks Summer Camp-$5,000; St. Vincent DePaul-$1,000; Beds for Kids-$1,000; Laces for Love-$1,000; Bikers Against Child Abuse-$1,000; Beach Baptist Food Market-$1,000; Firemen’s Kids Fund-$500; Renee’s Closet-$500 and Helping Hands Ministry at Beach Baptist-$100.

Seven area students were each awarded $2,500 scholarships: Shown here from left, Annie Salyers, graduating from Fort Myers High School and attending George Washington University this fall; Sarah Swiersz, graduating from SWFL Christian Academy and attending Central Florida University this fall; Mia Swiersz, attending Anderson University (SC); Jordan Wallace, attending University of Florida; Austin Tezak, attending University of Florida and Austen Ebenger, graduating from Fort Myers High School and attending University of Pennsylvania. Not able to be present, but also awarded a scholarship was Thomas Paul Cribbs, graduating from Cypress Lake High School and attending Florida Southern in the fall.
