Close Call

While walking south just past Santini Plaza I was nearly hit by a bicyclist coming up behind me at a good clip and going against traffic. I turned to cross the street never expecting a bicyclist behind me. Fortunately he had good instincts and swerved out of the way. In the interest of public safety I would like to see the Town require all bicyclists to have a bell or horn or something that warns pedestrians they are behind them. A light at night is a good idea, also.

Editor’s note: The State of Florida requires a bicycle ridden between sunset and sunrise to have a white light on the front visible from 500 feet away and a red reflector and light on the rear, visible from 600 feet. State Law also requires that bicycles be ridden in the same direction as vehicle traffic.
