Climate Change

53

Here in our section of Florida we are all, whether directly or indirectly, affected by climate change! Rising sea levels, hurricane intensities, red tides, agricultural and fishing industry declines, greater threat of diseases to humans to name just a few of many will all greatly negatively effect home values, insurance, businesses, and the tourist industry, as well as our quality of life.

This is not a political statement! It is not a blue/red, liberal/conservative debate! It is a scientific statement based on facts. Scientists rarely agree on anything, yet more than 97% of them do state that this is real and caused by human influences on our environment. The fourth national climate assessment (2018), the work of 13 US federal agencies and more than 350 scientists all agree. So does NASA, the national oceanic and atmospheric administration, the United Nations inter-governmental panel on climate change (Which includes about 2000 scientists from around the globe) all are of one voice. Many, but not all, who do not believe that this is happening cite arguments posed by and supported by multinationals and corporations who have their own reasons for denial. As they say follow the money.

The good news is that we have a chance to lessen the effects of what is to come. We can come together and unite, or we can stay divided, do nothing and suffer the consequences. For us, our children, and grandchildren the choice is NOW ours!
