The Kiddie Pool at the Fort Myers Beach Community Pool will be closed for the next several weeks for the installation of its new Water Playground Structure. The rest of the pool will be open. The FMB Community Pool is at 2600 Oak Street, adjacent to the Bay Oaks Recreational Center. Hours are Monday through Saturday,10 a.m. to 6 p.m., & Sundays Noon to 6 p.m. Member admission is $4 adults and $2 for children 1 to 12-years-old; non-Member adults $7 and kids $5, with infants free. The Pool will be open Holiday Hours on The Fourth of July from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. For information, call 239-463-5759.
The new play structure has been in the planning stages for quite a while as the old one was removed several weeks ago. “The new one will have enhanced safety features,” reported Alison Giesen, the Town’s Cultural Resources Director and interim Parks & Recreation Director. “Safety at a swimming pool is everything, so the new unit will be more open, to allow our outstanding lifeguard staff to better monitor the children. Of course, while safety is paramount, the new Kiddie Pool play unit must also be fun, or what is the point? It will have two slides rather than the former unit that only had one, as well as additional water and spray features, along with other ‘bells-&-whistles,’ so that is exciting.”
“It will be awesome,” agreed Erin Johns, Aquatic Supervisor. “There is an additional safety mat at the bottom of the slides, with greater visibility so lifeguards can track the kids. And, like Alison said, it will be fun! When you combine safety and fun at a pool, that is the best of both worlds. On top of everything else, this Kiddie Pool design is brand new, so ours is the first of its kind and we will be the first area pool anywhere for our guests to enjoy this newest model. As for the main pool, people particularly love our big blue slide, while others just kick back and soak up the sun on our lounge chairs. The FMB Community Pool is a happening place!”
