The 10th annual Kenny Conidaris Blood and Bone Marrow Drive was held at the Lani Kai last Saturday, drawing donors from around the community. Donors filed into Lee Memorial Blood Center buses to donate blood and then enjoyed the live music, food, prizes and giveaways as they have for the last decade. Begun as an effort to find a marrow donor for Kenny Conidaris, diagnosed with Severe Aplastic Anemia, and other children with similar conditions that rely on blood donations and seek a cure via bone marrow transplant, the drive has become a community event. The Lee Memorial Blood Center was happy to collect 59 units of blood last Saturday.
If you missed this opportunity, future blood drives will be held at Cypress Cove, near HealthPark, on Wednesday, August 17 from 9am-2pm; at the FMB Wal-Mart on Monday, August 22 from 1-4pm and at Key West Express on San Carlos Island on Tuesday, August 23 from 9:30am-3:30pm. Or stop in at the Lee Memorial donation center at Summerlin Crossings, 15880 Summerlin Road (near Winkler Rd.). The center is open MO, TU, TH & FR 8am-4:30pm and WE 8am-7pm. For more information on becoming a blood donor or being tested for the bone marrow registry, contact the Lee Memorial Blood Center
