Beach School Places 3rd in Book Battle

Fort Myers Beach Elementary students placed 3rd out of 43 elementary schools in the Lee County District Book Battle Competition on Friday, May 19, 2017. The six member student team of Kai West (5th, captain), Dusty Dwyer (4th), Jacob Greer (4th), Mallory Amos (4th), Alonna McMullen (3rd), and Mia West (3rd), worked diligently all year to achieve this success.

The Book Battle club is one of the free after school clubs supported by the Fort Myers Beach Elementary PTO. Throughout the school year, students meet twice a month with parent volunteer Kim West and teacher Lori Zamniak to discuss the 15 Sunshine State Young Reader Award books and to participate in activities to strengthen their reading and analytical skills. Eighteen students participated in the club, and an impressive 15 students finished all 15 books this year!fort myers beach elementary, 3rd place, book battle, fort myers beach news, island sand paper

The competitive team members each earned a spot to represent the school in the competition. This year, we were honored to have the generous sponsorship of New York Times bestselling author, Catherine Coulter. Thank you, Ms. Coulter, for allowing our young readers to soar!
