Beach Ramp Response

Editor’s Note: In response to last week’s Letter to the Editor “Clear Beach Ramps” by Norm Schock, the Town of Fort Myers Beach reached out to a coastal engineering firm, whose representative said that the switchback ramps are designed to accommodate changes in sand elevation and even with sand covering part of the ramp, it serves its purpose of providing a way onto the sand.

beach ramp, response to letter to the editorRemoving sand from the lower portion of the ramp, could result in ponding of water as the end of the ramp would be lower than surrounding sand on the beach. The Town plans to provide educational signage about sand on the switchbacks to improve public awareness. Photo provided.
