For the first time in 17 months, the Beach Library Board of Directors met at full strength Tuesday as George Ballantyne and Ed Scott took their seats after appointment by Governor Rick Scott.
Scott issued an announcement last week making the appointments:
“Ballantyne, 73, of Fort Myers Beach, is a retired project manager for NIBCO, Inc. He received his bachelor’s degree from Purdue University and his master’s degree from Northern Illinois University. Ballantyne is appointed to fill a vacancy created by the resignation of Jack Green, for a term beginning October 19, 2016, and ending November 6, 2018.
Scott, 78, of Fort Myers Beach, is a retired repairman. He attended Culver-Stockton College and is appointed to fill a vacancy created by the resignation of Allison Throckmorton, for a term beginning October 19, 2016, and ending November 6, 2018.”
The financial report provided to board members for September 30, 2016 reflects actual income about $88,000 over budgeted income for the fiscal year October 1, 2015-September 30, 2016. Expenses for all but reserves was approximately $412,000 under budget. Payroll costs accounted for about $168,000 of that surplus due to open staff positions. Reserves are budgeted to receive approximately $105,569.
The board considered and accepted the sole 3- year audit proposal received, from the library’s current auditor, Ashley, Brown & Co. Three companies were solicited for bids. The Ashley, Brown proposal included costs of $8,500 for the current year, with $50 increases each of the next two years.
The next meeting of the Library Board will be on November 15th at 6:30pm at the Beach Library.
